I'm not sure where to post this, so I apologize if this is the wrong forum.
I was wondering something. An NTSC DVD's resolution is 720x480 right? Now, let's say you have a 16:9 or 1.85/2.35 aspect ratio movie. In these cases, are the black bars part of the 480 lines or are they all part of the movie and the DVD player/TV takes care of the bars? So for example if I encode the movie to DivX or whatever, and I want to preserve all the lines. Should I encode with the same resolution (no resizing) but cropping the black bars that appear?
I hope I'm making sense here, hehe, if not I'll try to rephrase the question.
