I was thinking about writing a report on why legal online music never will be a big hit, but I really don't know where to start. Can anyone recommend some good sites and/or articles which are about this issue?

One good place to start is in Doom9's thread about online music costs:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75829
The reason it will never be a big hit is that big record labels are charging these online music companies exuberant amounts of money (royalties and such) and there is little profit for the companies selling music online. On the Doom0.org news from today, it also states that some albums on iTunes will now cost more than the retail CD's in the stores! WHY would you buy songs online if you can get the actual CD's in the store for the same or cheaper price?
Something else you could search for is the quality of the music in these online stores. I know Musicmatch and others use either wma or mp3 at 128 kbps which, in my opinion, isn't sufficient for something you're paying money for. You can always download songs (illegially) and get a higher bitrate for free...
Angelus: just to make this clear, Apple has denied price rises, but there have already been albums in the past priced higher than retail CDs, though their number is rather small.
