Information on converting Black and White AVI to SVCD

I have a couple of classics which are black and white avi. Before I convert I'm wondering if there are special steps or settings required in TMPG (or any other converter) to deal with this type of input.

not really, if you're concerned about stray color showing up
as noise, open the settings/advanced/ custom coolor correction/
add mode:saturation and set the slider to -255.
