I occasionally have problems with DVDs not working after I burn them. I think that the problem lies in the IFO files. I would like to know if there is a way to "PLAY" directly off the hard drive and test the IFO files before burning.
Thanks.

software dvd players like powerdvd or windvd have features like "play dvd from hd"
i use powerdvd
just select this and point it to the video_ts folder
create an iso image of the DVD (you should do this anyway before burning for best compatability), with imgtool classic. Mount the image with daemon-tools. You can now play the DVD in any software player - Powerdvd is best as it more accurate than windvd. For burning you can now use dvddecrypter and burn this iso.

Even if it plays in a software dvd player, it might not work in a standalone. I have found it to be good practice to open the title ifo in ifoedit and then selecting get vts sectors. this will correct minor flaws and ensure a more compatible dvd.

I've found that the most strict s/w player is IFOEdit.
Myself I burn a DVD-RW after checking with IFOEdit to make sure that the stand -alone player'll be happy.
All the best
