Has anyone done (or know where to find ) a comparison of tmpgenc dvd source vs CCE when encoding video to mpeg2

I have tried both TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator and CCE Basic.
I can say that I prefer CCE because of the speed. Also, because TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator is designed to be easy it does not allow advanced settings to be tweaked, unlike TMPGEnc 2.5.
There is no right answer to say which one is best. It depends on the bitrate, the type and clip, and other variables.
I suggest that you take a short sample clip and encode it both in TMPGEnc and CCE and see what looks better to your eyes.

The Source Creator only supports 2-pass VBR and so CCE is in ONE-PASS Mode better. The Source Creator combines only TMPGEnc and the DVD Author. If you use both programm extern your results are better.;)

Actually "TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator 2.0" is only an encoder, it does not have authoring capabilities. You have to use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" to author the DVD. Don't get the two products confused. It is not a combination of TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD Author. "TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator" is only a stripped down version of TMPGEnc 2.5 that has an easy to use interface that hides the advanced features. It was designed for newbies who would be confused by the advanced features of TMPGEnc 2.5.
One difference between "TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator" and TMPGEnc 2.5 is that DVD Source Creator has the new noise reduction filter that will be in TMPGEnc 3.0.
"TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator" supports 1 pass CBR and 2 pass vbr just like CCE Basic.
Refer to the offical product pages:

Thanks to everyone . Is there any advantage to using tmpgnec 2.5 plus over tmpg dvd source . ? What I mean is is the encoding to mpeg2 of better quality in tmpg2.5 plus or are there just more options .

For the most part DVD Source Creator and TMPGEnc 2.5 will generate the same results. TMPGEnc 2.5 has advanced settings that when tweaked you can improve the video, but when set wrong can make the quality worse.
DVD Source Creator has some improved features over TMPGEnc 2.5, like a faster and and better quality noise reduction filter.
TMPGEnc 3.0 is expected at the end of May 2004 (it is already released in Japan). From the press release you can expect both a huge quality and speed increase.
I would say use the one that you feel more comfortable with.

The settings you can adjust in TMPGEnc 2.5 but not in TMPGEnc Source Creator are:
- Custom Quantize Matrix
- You can adjust the GOP (or set the GOP closed)
- Ability to set the Motion Search Precision
- Ability to set the the DC component precision
- Better bitrate control (MVBR, CQ)
- Different Profiles
- More filters
You can search the forum if you want to learn more about them.

Hello Video Dude, :)
My experience of the encoding:
- Mpeg2: i prefer CCE 2.67 for his natural aspect picture and his options
- Mpeg1: TmpgEnc 2.5, because i found it it's better
It's only by experience
Bye ;)

- Mpeg1: TmpgEnc 2.521.xxx (352x240-ntsc)
usind DVD2SVCD/Roba to encode (with spice) and authoring with TMPGEncDVDAuthor!

Hello Jorel, :)
I think TMPEG is not DVD2SVCD.
Your explanation without appeal because DVD2SVCD (v1.2.2 with Roba too) is my favorite encode (only for mpeg1).
however, CCE 2.70 pro is the best for mpeg-2 :D :D :D
If you have a time don't hesitate ot try it.

hey guada,i was unclear:
DVD2SVCD isn't TMPGEnc of course!
i use dvd2svcd to encode MPEG1 with TMPGEnc and to encode MPEG2 with CCE(Roba only works with CCE and not ---> with TMPGEnc).
CCE 2.70 pro is for Pentium 3 or 4 processors with Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP6 but i have athlon xp+2000(don't work)and not windows NT, see details:

but thanks for recomendations!

it's the big blue bird from Monsters inc. short story that seems dissipated but is very friendly and simple and ....in the end is a winner cos is a lucky "guy"...seems to me. that short story is like a reality in some situations of the real life. believe, the story of this bird sometimes express my mind! :)
