View Full Version : Running two instances of GK at the same time?

Is it possible to run two instances of Gordian Knot at the same time, encoding two different DivX 5 videos? Would it have any side-effects on the result of ony of the two encoding sessions?

Sometimes I run GK (version 0.27.*) to DivX-5-encode a movie, which takes some time on my (not very fast) machine. For example, right in the middle of that loooong encoding, it comes to my mind to do a small test encoding of some completely different video. Without running a second instance of GK at the same time, I would either have to cancel the movie encoding (loosing hours of already done encoding time), or wait for hours until the looooong movie is finished before I could start my small second encoding.

But I fear that just starting a second instance of GK and running another DivX 5 encoding might cause some unwanted interaction between the two, resulting in damaged output files or at least reduced quality of some kind, or can this not happen? Unfortunatly using a second PC for it is not possible, thus my questions arose.

In reality, multiple instances of GK cannot be run. (len0x has coded a module to check this and disable new instance)

Instead you could manually use Vdub(mod) for encoding. If you do 2 encodings together the result will be longer time to complete each encoding. There will be no other side-effects or artifacts.;)
