Hello,

Doing some standard rips to ISO with DVD decryptor ... the thing is, it is using _barely any_ CPU ... granted, I have a dual-xeon 2.8ghz, and I am running XP-pro, so I am getting full use out of the hyperthreading ...

But my CPU usage is less than 5% while ripping ..

Then it occurred to me - I have a hauppage winTV 350 card in my PC that has hardware mpeg decode/encode ... is dvd decryptor using that hardware, or is CSS really that un-intensive to run ?

thanks.

hmm.. I'm tempted to give a snappy reply, but then again I can't remembe r how I know all this so I'll try to be nice ;)

Decryption is all about I/O. Reading the data from the disc, and write it to your harddisk. Descrambling is not a very CPU consuming process.. try disable decryption (not sure if you can), or rip an unencrypted disc and you'll notice that the time difference with and without decryption.

There's no MPEG decoding going on anywhere in the decryption process. Decoding is done while playing back or re-encoding (there we have decoding, followed by encoding).
