Hi all,

I've been a long time divx/xvid user and have performed inverse telecline on some anime and other content in order to covert the final product to 23.9 frames / second in order to get better quality output.

My question with TMPG is this...I've been using TMPG to create some SVCDs from DVD source...does using the inverse telecline feature of TMPG improve quality? The output is still 29.97 frames/sec for NTSC due to VCD or SVCD standards I assume. If there is not quality improvement then I will happily ignore and convert over at 29.97 frames.

Can anyone tell me if this will improve quality?

Thanks

Does anyone have an opinion or information on this?

Yes there will be a quality improvement (about 20%) if you IVTC and encode at 23.97. You then need to set the Encode Mode to the setting "3:2 pulldown when playback mode" in TMPGEnc. You might need to unlock the template first.

Or encode the file in 23.97 with the progressive setting and then use pulldown.exe to set the flags.

The final output will be 23.97 but the flags will tell the player to repeat some frames so it become 29.97 fps.
