Hey,

I'm not sure if I'm in the right part in the forum but I wanted some suggestions to playing HDTV content encoding in .avi format (WM9 codec). I have a 2.8GHZ HT P4 and the audio lags behind the video. I've tried Windows Media Player 9, 6.4 & 6.4 classic with the same problems. Windows Media Player 6.4 lags and the rest just have a lag in audio.

I'm open for any suggestions.

Thanks~

pacman99,

to repair existing .avi records open them in VirtalDubMod, set delay in interleaving for -(minus)650, set direct copy for video and save,
play again and made some corrections if needed

so it IS the avi file for sure and not my computer screwing up? I do remember playing the WM9 HDTV demo clips from microsoft's site and those clips actually lagged, both video and audio.
You sure it's nothing to do with my software?

Thanks~

I am sorry for misunderstanding.
The best way to test your system capabilities will be making from let say 1 minute of HDTV record (ca.130MB real provided frames are exactly at the moment 1920x816) several .avi's with pictures as 720x408, 1260x714,1440x816,1680x952, and 1920x1080 using simplest/quickest codec as 4.12 divx .

For my Athlon 2200+ working with 1784MHz and GeForce2/64MB I am converting HDTV to 720x408 and playing back with 45-60% procesor power.

so it may just be that my processor doesn't have any power and that I should reduce the resolution? reminds me of my 233mhz when divx just came out. I had to resize everything for it to work :)
Errr so it is my CPU? I just recently bought this, hoping for it to be good enough for my needs. Apparently it's not :(
Or maybe it's just windows ;)

In my case when watching live HDTV with my above presented procesor and graph card using program SkyView and so called safe BIOS settings
I have audio without any stutters and video frames a little above 20 frames/second,on screen 1024x796.
Setting in BIOS optimized values I have full 25 frames /sec and 75-90%
of procesor power but system is not fully stable.

PS You can download example of .avi 720x408 from HDTV from my site

that works perfectly without lagging at all!
I think the HDTV content I have has a resolution that my processor can't handle. Does skyview allow the playing of .avi files? Maybe I can try that with safe BIOS settings to make it work?

I can't watch any HDTV content off my satellite as it's all encrypted and because of that, it takes too much processing power to play it live :(
