I convert my favorite movies to mp3. I have been looking for a tool that converts WAV to mp3. Ripping dvd, okay (Smartripper).
Converting to wav using DVD2AVI - okay.
Converting wav to mp3 by 'steam' - okay (don't laugh. The actions are: play the file in RealPlayer and make a live recording using Super mp3 Recorder Pro, while I'm at the supermarket). Converting wav to mp3 is a problem.

Q: What tool might you recommend I buy to convert that wav file to mp3?

Thank you, in anticipation,

Compliments, Richard Schroder

the peeps here are really "rules" nazis.... but i'll help you out...

when you go to dvd2avi.... go to the audio section and select "demux all tracks... it'll give you one or two *.ac3 files... those are dolby digital tracks i think (don't hold me to that.... just konw thats the audio)... get besweet and besweet gui and you can take the ac3 and make them into anything you want (mp3, ogg, aac).... alot easier and less data is lost....

@starwarsandrisk:

You neither have to like nor agree with the set of rules that are in place at Doom9, but when you signed up you did agree to abide by them, like it or not. Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm)

With one short sentence you've mangaged to insult the entire Moderation team....an astonishing feat of its own, not to mention your post being one of the single most counter-productive offerings I've seen to date. A wise man should exercise more caution.

ever heard of the "soup nazi"?

You are making reference to a single episode of a U.S. produced situation comedy (Seinfeld: season 7, episode 115, November 2, 1995).

While that sitcom has been exported to many countries, it is unclear to me: if that particular episode was included in global syndication if that phrase, when interpreted into other languages for dubbing or subtitles retained "nazi".Certainly, the phrase has become part of the North American popular culture lexicon. However, this is a global forum.

"Nazi" is often inseparable from images of swastikas, concentration camps, Hitler, etc. In recent years, in North America, the word has sometimes been more loosely associated with fanatics.

But many religious organizations feel that watering down the term "Nazi" is dangerous. For one example, the Canadian Jewish Congress says:...The primary concern is that once the word is no longer associated solely with its original meaning (compounded by the passage of time) the ghastly events of the Second World War will be stamped out of our collective memory, rendering their lessons impotent. The term is overwhelmingly political in many parts of the world.

i was just jokin around.... lol.

No, you were not. Your usage was unfunny, and was meant as a slam. Not just to the moderation team, but to all forum members who, by example, show proper behavior.

lol.... down to the episode huh....

i guess i forgot about the national thing.... around here you can be called a "whatever" nazi if you're a b**** about anything or anal about anything... thats all.... it just rolls off the tongue out here in western united states.... please pardon the culture shock.....

i was jokin around.... it was a slam... but friends slam each other right?... or maybe its jsut around here.... oh well... sorry to anyone who was offended.... i'll try a bit harder from now on.... but back to the original post...

@Schroder.... what did you end up doin?

Richard probably took one look at this mess and ran for cover.

@Richard--It's unfortunate that your very first post here at Doom9 turned into such a pointed, albeit necessary, lesson on forum conduct. This rarely ever happens, I assure you.

Killingspree's gentle pointer to the rules was just that, nothing more, and a fairly regular comment to the newer members. It's better to be pointed to the rules here in Newbies, than to get a less subtle reminder in one of the other forums where more is expected of us and the climate can be a bit harsher. Rules 1 and 1a ask us to read up and search before posting, after doing that, you'll always find it a good move to talk a little about what you've done with your search results, supplying as many details as seem applicable. As this thread has shown, it's important to be up on all of the rules, not just a few of them.

The rest of this has been about Rule 4, no re-cap necessary.

You've pretty much figured out your own question, for your stated purpose all you need is an audio converter. Starwarsandrisk suggested using BeSweet, but should you find it a little much to work with, run searches on "wav converter" within the forum or on the Internet; you'll find many options there to choose from.

If you're still stuck, post back. If you run into problems on subsequent issues, ask for help, you'll get it, but you'll need to start a new thread, as this....

Thread is closed.
