View Full Version : Target quality in %

Hi all,

When I use target quality % in order to set quality when I don't care about space, I noticed that for the same % the bitrates are a lot higher now.
I am talking about the news versions containing XviD1.0 RC4 versus previous versions.
Sorry but I don't remember which autoGK version and which XviD version the older one was.
I have a movie encoded with 75%, it has a smaller bitrate with the older version than the same movie with 50% in the new version.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Just guessing...

In the "old" version maximum quality (100%) was quantizer 2 !!!

In the "new" version maximum quality (100%) is quantizer 1 now

That is not true. AutoGK still calculates quality based on q2 = 100%

In general I find new xvid to be more compressible than old one (~5%), but I never compared traget size directly. Care to do some testing with target % mode to see if it properly scales now with 100%,90%,80% etc... ?
