I have one chapter in Star Wars episode 2 that isnt encoding right. I confirmed it ripped properly. The chapter, after encoding, plays fine on the video but the audio delays starting for about 5 seconds or so, then the video stutters, and the audio catches up, and everything is fine after that 5 second spot. This is the only m2v out of the 90 demuxed that has this issue. I confirmed bitrate is not exceeding max in bitrate viewer (max 6000 for this after compression).
Playeed in windvd 4, havent burnt and tried yet
any ideas?

as an added point, this is precisely the spot of the layer break

Bump.
This issue is still found on some DVDs. I'm trying to backup 'Full Metal Panic - Mission 01' (PAL R4 Madman release) and at the start of the second episode there is this lag. Tried with CCE and ProCoder 2. I'm not sure if this is where the layer break is on the original as I don't know how to tell.
Any ideas?
RB version is 0.72
Edit:
'Special Error Processing' does away with the lag (in this case atleast).
Is there anything wrong with using Special Error Processing?
Edit2:
On second thought, 'Special Error Processing' does away with the original lag, but has now created many more instances of lag :( The lag isn't a problem with the IFO but the VOB (there is a present lag when I play the vob by itself. Any way for me to demux the vob and then remux it properly with video audio (3 tracks) and subs (2) ?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Sorry, I've provided incorrect information.
There is an initial lag at the beginning of one (of four) episode. There are also lags at the beginning of the second chapter of each episode (chapter after the opening credits).
These lags have the video playing for a few seconds (up to six) without sound. Then the video stutters a bit and pauses while the audio starts and catches up.
Special Error Processing eliminates the lag at the beginning of one of the episodes, but leaves the chapter 2 lag intact.
If anyone has any ideas than that would be very helpful.
Thankyou very much
ProCoder 2 with EclPro 0.24
DVD-RB 0.72
Also rebuilt with 0.70

I keep coming back to this so I thought I'd post some more :)
I've tried rebuilding with other versions of DVD-RB that I have archived. The best result achieved was with 0.56. The initial stutter in second episode (and the fourth has one that I neglected to mention) remained, however the stutter at the beginning of the second chapter of each episode went!
Forgive my ignorance, but is there any way to get the best of both worlds with Special Error Processing and 0.56? So the first chapter can be rebuilt with Special Error Processing enabled (as that seems to get rid of the initial stutter) but the rest are rebuilt with 0.56?
I've read that there will be a fix to make Special Error Processing redundant in 0.73, so I'll leave the files as they are and try to rebuild with that when it's out, so unless someone has any bright ideas I guess I'll wait for that and post the results.
Thanks all
Update:
I have a feeling that the disc may have audio issues in the 5.1 track. Apparently some later volumes have the issue (though more severe). It's unfortunate but oh well.
If I remove the 5.1 track then everything plays smoothly. DVD-RB must uncover it in the rebuild phase as the original doesn't display the issues and DVD Shrink has no problem with it.

Have you it tried with cce 2.50?
Is that a typo or are you really using rb 0.42b? Have you tried it with 0.72?

That guy posted April 2004, so I'm not sure if you'll get an answer from him. I just replied to his post with my problem because he explained it so well so I thought it best to add to his post instead of starting a new thread. Sorry about the confusion.

The problem you describe is very close to a problem I had with eposodic DVD's. I would not get studder as you describe but I did get audio dropouts as well as error 3's and 9's.
I don't use procoder so I don't know if I can help you but I can describe what I did to solve it.
I first made sure I was running the latest avisysth and dgdecode. I found the problem in the version of cce I was using. With cce v2.67 I got the audio dropouts and errors. I then switched to CCE 2.50 and from then on my projects came out perfect. It seems that at the end of each episode a blank single frame was incerted into the stream and this cell was getting corrupt producing the errors. When I manually rebuild the corrupt cell then I would get the audio dropouts. If you do a search for error 9 or error 3 you may find some helpful information. If you have or can get cce version 2.50 I would strongly suggest you try that.

yeah that was an old post..
problem was solely related to layer break, which was fixed long ago..
i believe morien's problem is different

dannyv:
Tried various encoders but to no avail :( Thanks though.
jptheripper:
Yeah. I think that it has to do with poor encoding with the 5.1 track as removing that fixes it.
Thanks for your replies.
