blasted

I have been reading through a few of the threads recently and have noticed that different people use different programmes. Here are the programmes i use.
avi to dvd, i use cucusoft converter, then ifoedit to do that bit and nero 6 to burn.
to make a back up of a dvd i use dvd shrink 3.1
are these about the best and easy to use combination or are there other alternatives to be considered?

"Best", and "easiest" are descriptions that are relative to several criteria. We're discouraged from asking such questions because of the hot debate that can follow, but we don't see much of this in Newbies.
Some people want to watch backups on an airplane, or other trips. Some want to rip to the SVCD spec (cheaper media to burn to) and hand these to the kids, knowing they're gonna trash them. :) One group just wants to learn how to create backups of these darned things without breaking their sanity, and still get a good looking product. Another crew is the one that wants the highest possible quality backups and are prepared to pay the price in learning how to do so. These are just a few examples of usage and intent.
Are you satisfied with your current rips in terms of quality and time invested?
If you want to spend the time it takes to learn the most advanced manual procedures, you can come up with better quality, the question you have to ask yourself is, "Is the time worth the increased quality?"
I probably haven't told you anything you didn't know before posting these questions, but that's where "the best" and "the easiest" take us....back to the beginning.

I suppose best and easiest is probably a bad way of putting it.
From my own perspective i like programmes that take the hassle out of things. I personally do not need to learn every aspect of producing dvd's, it gets far to complicated. What i do have is a passing interest in the programmes available and the differnt things i can do with them. I dont have a problem with the combination that i am using at present but there seems to be more formats and special thing coming out that makes things a bit more complicated.
I did look at putting this in other threads but there seems to be such a big step between the newbies, which i find difficult and the more advanced guys which just baffles me.
