im trying to backup Master&Commander (PAL)=> as explained in the big 3Guide and need some help.
i have alot of questions and hope somebody can help and explain things to me (im new and not very familiar with this kind of stuff)
1Question:
i start DIF4U. Select the virtual drive and have the following:
VTS_01=>
PGC_01=>the main movie[lenght 2:12:38]=>3audio streams, 4subtitles
PGC_02=>???=>[lenght00:00:01]=> no audio and sub...
??hmm whats this?can i uncheck it??
VTS_02=> 1Mb =>ll uncheck it
VTS_03=> 21Mb => same as above
VTS_04=> 293Mb=> [lenght 00:07:22] some previews from fox=>one audio stream no subs=> is checkt due to its over "200Mb to demux"
VTS_05=>91Mb=> ll uncheck
VTS_06=> 48Mb=>ll uncheck
so far no problems (expect i dont know whats PGC_02 in VTS_01)
ll uncheck one audio stream in VTS_01 and demux the hole thing...
so pls tell me if i can uncheck PGC_02 too or not.
next question ll follow when job is done.
THX so far

great!!!!!
and maybe u can give me an other answer at same time.
I have also checked reencodemenus using NuMenu4U...and received "run-time error 13 type mismatch"
Ive seen that it is a well known error (search function) but have not found any solution or explanation to it.

okay time for long answer!
well as a pre-emptive explanation, the 'big 3' method you are using is intended for a full back-up of a DVD.
yes, you can remove some of the VTSes, but, no it is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.
therefore it would be best, until you become familiar with the programs and what they can do, to leave everything that is checked by default, checked! this will limit troubleshooting any errors that may occur further down the track.
answer:
basically what pgc_02 of vts_01 is a short duration 'dummy' track. these are very common in dvd titles and can be used to allow the dvd to 'jump-to' the end of a pgc. they can also be used to store commands that tell the player where to go next. so, as a general rule: NEVER deselect these in DIF4U.
as another point of interest, is that any VTS you deselect in DIF4U, will get copied to the 'working directory' as is (ie. with no compression). however a PGC within a VTS that is deselected, removes that pgc from the final .vob file and WILL cause playback issues.
as for the numenu4u error, well it can be a problem with recently released 'beta' software that there may be issues with some titles. these issues get ironed out in time but for now you have two options:
1. download an older version of numen4u avaliable at the website: numenu4u website (http://numenu4u.users.btopenworld.com/)
or
2. remove numenu4u from the process for now until development removes your runtime error
either way, it would be helpful to the author, zuel, if you post your error in his bug reporting thread:
numen4u scenarist version (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73926)
hope that helps

after DIF4U have finished reauthorist opened. so far so good!!
Here i have VTS_01; VTS_02_03= dummy; and VTS_04.
My question is:
in the guide removede audio and subs should be seen as dummy. I do not see them => no dummy for the removed DTS Ger audio and 2x Ger subs.
i think thats not a problem =>but im not sure. do it influence the structure of this dvd?
now i ll start the loaded jobs in DoCCE4U.
If i run into complications u ll hear from me.
:D
P.S.: sorry for those noob-like questions but i realy want to understand what im doing.

no problem, its why we are all here - to help fellow enthusiasts!
okay, well not entirely a strange occurence because:
when you remove certain audio/subpicture streams, ReAuthorist we create a dummy for these removed items to keep the structure intact. however if there are no audio streams (that you have elected to keep) that follow the streams that will be 'dummied', then ReAuthorist decides that there is no need to create them, as nothing will be affected by not having them there.
hope that made sense.

so far reauthorist have don the work and scenarist too...
as the guide explains i have to copy the hole stuff to one directory.
all the files from VIDEO_TS (created by DIF4U => these files are not touched= correct??)
and files created by scenarist.
BUT
as i do so im missing VTS files.
the original Disk looks like this:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
VTS_01_6.VOB
VTS_01_7.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_03_0_IFO
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_04_0.BUP
VTS_04_0.IFO
VTS_04_0.VOB
VTS_04_1.VOB
VTS_05_0.BUP
VTS_05_0.IFO
VTS_05_0.VOB
VTS_05_1.VOB
VTS_06_0.BUP
VTS_06_0.IFO
VTS_06_0.VOB
VTS_06_1.VOB
in my new directory im missing :
VTS_01_5.VOB
VTS_01_6.VOB
VTS_01_7.VOB
??
these files are not present in any folders created by scenarist or the other app.
:confused:

nothing to worry about.
the reason why they are not present is because re-encoding your video has reduced the size of the VTS_01 .vob file, and as they are generally split at the 1 Gig size, you obviously dont need as many 'splits' in the 'shrunk' video

yeah that makes alot more sense!!!
i think i got it
i have to update
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_04_0.IFO
as i have reencoded
VTS_01 and _04
is that correct??
if i press the update buttom the app first says that the update was sucessfull and than something about "GET VTS Sectors" and " Correst VTS Sectors".
is it necessery??
ThX alot for the help !!
jel

yes thats correct, you only update those ifos for which you re-encoded the VTSes.
just answer YES!, or 'disable warnings' in the options menu.

one more question.
i have done ifo update and "correct vts sectors too".
than trie to burn the dvd on an RW.
first of all bero tells something about that the coordination of this files have failed and maybe the dvd could not be played correctly.
:confused:
i have in nevertheless burned the dvd and
surprise:
it works perfectly.
LOOKS LIKE A PERFECT COPY :eek:
is that common??

there are multiple threads around in regards to this.
my solution is to not use nero, and instead use Imgtool Classic to create an iso image and DVDdecrypter to burn the .iso image.
i would always recommend testing your files in 'ifoedit' (using the dvd play function) prior to burning however.
