Hi,
I recently tried to back up one of my DVDs using DVDShrink. It gave me a "Copy Protection Error". I bought this DVD from columbiahouse.com. I read recently that columbiahouse employs a new encryption method from MacroVision. I can return the DVD and buy one from a regular store. Are DVDs available in regular stores or say amazon.com protected in a similar fashion? If that is the case, I will cancel my membership with columbiahouse. I mean, I am the kind of guy that buys CDs/DVDs, backs them up and keeps the original away. If I can't backup a particular DVD, I don't want it. Please advise. Thanks.

DVD Shrink v3.1.7.6 was reported to have returned the error message you're seeing, if this is the version you're using, check here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74193&highlight=Protection) to read a thread on the topic and pick up links to rock-solid versions.

Hi rohangc,

Please try our product DVD Region-Free 3.60 at http://www.dvdidle.com/download/DVDRegionFree36.exe to see the result.

We just added a new feature to remove the "Copy protection error" message of DVD Shrink when the disc is dirty or scratched.

If you need help, please contact with me at fengtao@dvdidle.com
