Is there a better way to do this, instead of using TMPG, and or following the doom9 guide?
If someone could provide another guide, using other methods, that would be great.
Thank you,

tmpg DVD author and DVDpatcher are needed
drag the mpg files to hard drive and remove read only in properties
run dvd patcher and patch both files (ENTIRE) to 352 x 480
create dvd in dvd author by adding both files to same track
create dvd files and patch (entire) data vob files back to 480 x 480
hint: if you have VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB te data files are _1.VOB and _2.VOB
burn to dvdr

(S)VCD2DVDMPG is what i use all the time.
Merge the two/three svcd files into one file. openup the program and alter the header. import into a author tool, or just use ifoedit.
good luck

DVDLab (http://www.mediachance.com/)
.
Supports 480x480 no need to patch.
.
Will transcode audio for you.
.
Does lots of stuff give it a try. (30 day trial)
.
Plenty of guides out, or just use the help files.

When I patch it, and try to add files into dvd author, I get that the "GOP" is to large, how do I go about fixing this?

Indeed, the only thing you can do is click Ignore. However, the resulting DVD might not play on some standalone players.
If this becomes a problem and you wish to create a standard DVD, you will have to re-encode the video. That's a long process that will likely reduce the video quality. If you're going to do this, use DVD-compliant resolution 352x480 (NTCS), also called half-D1. Maximum GOP length is 18 frames for NTCS, 15 frames for PAL. In that case, you should re-encode the audio, too, changing the sampling rate to 48kHz. Note that MP2 is not a standard audio for NTSC DVD, only WAV or AC-3.

SVCD to DVD patched transfers work in every dvd player
on sale in the last 2 years. DvD standalone makers no
longer restrict their players from playing these types
of DVDs.
If it can play dvdr, it can play this.
