View Full Version : problem in ripping dvd to avi with ac3 audio

I recently ripped a part of a dvd that has a test to different speakers.

When I play the dvd using WinDvd 5.0 and dolby headphone, I can clearly distinguish the "simulated location" of different speakers (front left, front right, middle, back left, and back right).

After I use dvd decrypter to rip the ac3 5.1 channel out, I can still hear the different speakers (no difference with that of reading DVD.

However, after I use autoGK and rip it as an avi and listen again, the front left and front right speakers become the stereo only: front left --> left, front right --> right i.e. only the left headphone has sound when the left front speaker is tested (which is different from listening from dvd when both right and left headphone have sound but the left one is a bit louder)

My setting is like this:
AutoGK:
Audio track: only 1 ... English AC3 6ch
output size: Target quality (in percentage): 60
Advanced setting: Auto width, XviD, AC3

AC3Filter Config:
Speakers: Dolby ProLogic II
(P.S. when I use Dolby Surround, even the back left and back right do not work ...)
DRC not used
others just default

Please help! Thank you!!

This sounds like (pun intended) that the codec for playing back avi file ? is downmixing your ac3 to stereo by default. SO ac3 only(music.ac3) goes thru ac3 filter, DVD goes thru DVD player but AVi (music.avi) is set to output stereo only (or is only capable of stereo output).
