hhhmm, i'm loathe to start a new thread just for that, but i can't find a place to put it :)
i would have a little request for future gknots, if possible :)
would it be possible to have the option to minimize gknot to the taskbar, as well as in the tray? since my windows explorer crashes every 5 minutes with avi files, i end up with the gknot icon disappearing, and impossible to restore. i have to go to the task manager to end the process to recover it, and of course, all my settings and everything go AWOL. it isnt much a problem but it is annoying, i end up having to leave gknot on the screen constantly, just in case .
if that could be sorted i would be eternally grateful to len0x, the ripping gods and whoever else i'm pointed to :D
(and i know it's a windows bug, but i figured Bill wasn't going to fix that anytime soon ;))

since my windows explorer crashes every 5 minutes with avi files,There seems to be an easier solution for your problem: get a stable setup. Either fix what you screwed up (this behaviour is certainly not normal) or do a complete reinstall and go easy on the tools you install afterwards (main source for problems is installing a lot of 3rd party tools that start to interfere with each other).

you could try to disable the task bar (the sidebar in the xp explorer window) if you don't need it

thanks, i know all the threads, all the supposed fixes, and nothing works, it still crashes :) on top of it it happens to quite a few people i know, be they on XP or 2K, though it seems less damaging on 2K .... i have done registry clean ups, reformats, total uninstall and reinstall of codecs etc..etc..it works for 3 days max, and then off we go again ;) i got used to it, so did my friends...i just hoped there was a way to minimize GK elsewhere than in the tray, that's all .(last reformat 2 weeks ago, and i'm running on the bare minimum i need, so if there is a conflict, so be it, because i need everything on my pc right now). For me, it happens with XviD nearly only, another friend has ogg and XviD crashing him and so on... ah well, no bother

I don't understand when you disable the bar why windows should want to access the media file, even when the explorer crashes it should restart including taskbar

well.. if it starts happening after a reinstall.. I'd ask myself "what tools have I installed"? Try not to install anything.. I bet it won't happen anymore. There's nobody I know having any such problems, and all the people I know that are my age have a computer and have eventually come across one or two avi files.

at least on XP reinstall should not be necessary, I've never reinstalled XP except for new hardware. I have good experience with enabling system recovery only on drive C and I don't install software on C or save personal data on C since the system recovery would modify that data. Of course a seperate partition or a virtual machine should be used to test new software in the first place so a system recovery would never be necessary

hhmm i have 2K anyway....never mind as i said it is no big deal :) thank you for your answers :).All i wanted to know is if it was possible to have GK minimized in the taskbar as well as the tray, as 99% of apps do, but it IS a minor nuisance, much more minor than finding out what does it(laziness hits), and is it the same software on all configurations ...anyway, as i said i need every app i have right now, so so be it..it's not like it stops my system, all it does is make me lose 2 or 3 icons :)
