View Full Version : Help JPGL Decompressor ??

I have a old movie recorded with a webcam I suddently can't watch (formated since then)

Only thing I'm able to is hear the audio.

When opening with Media Player classic I get this info:

When opening with Virtual Dub I get this error:
http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/nightrhyme/domm9pic1.jpg

When opening with Gspot:
http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/nightrhyme/domm9pic2.jpg

When opening with Avic.exe I get this info
http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/nightrhyme/domm9pic3.jpg

It's pretty obvious that I need this JPGL Decompressor i guess.
But I can't seem to find any ??

Only one I could find was this one:http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideolossless.htm and it didn't work :-(

I would be most greatful if anyone could help me beeing able to view this movie.

Thanx in advance

Did this WebCam file play in MPC before the reformat? I understand that your present difficulty is due to the "missing" JPGL codec, but I'm at a loss as to where it came from in the first place. Did you have some sort of proprietary player that came with the cam software that's no longer present after the reformat?

I couldn't locate the JPGL codec, either. Apparently, it's not freely available to the public, but maybe someone will ring in with info that can help you access the codec in an acceptable manner. This is what I found:

JPGL--A proprietary format used by many WebCams which are built around the DIVIO NW 801/802 chip such as the Logitec QuickCam Pro, VideoLogic HomeC@m and other cameras from Askey, Mustek, Microtek, and Tekom.

Maybe you could forumulate (hehe) a search around some of the above terms. It's been a *bumpy* day, hasn't it? :)

Thanx so much for reply :-)

Yes the file played in MPC before. It played in any Media player :D

I don't have de Camera "EZONICS Pro cam" anymore. But I still have the driver and the software I used to record.

I took a look at the files in the driver and in the software used and found 2 interesting files one called jpgl.dll in the driver and one called JpegDll.dll in the software.

But i don't know what to do with the files. I tried putting them in Windows/System32 but i guess they have to be registered or something like that since it doesn't work.

the driver can be downloaded here (http://204.247.157.162/Drivers/newpro02.exe) the software Called Live Express I'll put up for you to download if you are interested ? It's about 10MB

I would be so so greatful if you would help me fix this since I have no idear where to get the assistance to make this work

I mailed every body I could think of in EZONICS. Strangly enough nobody was able to help me :-(

Please help :(

Did you re-install the webcam software? Or are you unable to do so because you don't have the camera?

If you're a geek, you can get the huffyuv.inf file from the HUFFYUV distribution, change all huffyuv to jpgl, and use that inf to register your codec.

Counting your last *bump*, this is the fourth one in the past 24 hours; two of them are yours, and none of them have been appropriate. If you'll take the time to check, almost 100% of the threads that fall off the board without a reply have a fatal flaw of some nature, or have been answered in another thread by the same author.

Please discontinue the *bumps*.

That sounds interesting. But i don't quite follow. Would you care to explain this a little more detailed ? And no i don't own the camera anymore. Perhaps you would be so kind as to take a look at the inf in the driver file I postet a link for ?

Thanx in advance

Sorry for the bumping. I will not do it again

My genius cousin fixed it by copying the jpgl.dll file to windows/system and making a new key in the registry.

I'm soooo happy.

I'll explain it in more detail if anybody wnat's to know :-)

Hi there nightrhyme,
I think I have the same problem. I have captured some videos from a webcam and now i dont have my cam or my machine and i cant see that video file. I downloaded GSpot and saw that that file is in the JPGL fourCC format and it says Pegasus Lossless JPEG.

I went to jpg.com site.. and searched for the codec which contained JPGL. Installed it but still it dint work. I tried installing all possible codecs. Ace Mega Codec. KLM Lite. Nothing worked out.

I think we might be having the same problem and i hope you can help me with it. I hope you check this page and reply back. It would be really great if you mail me back on my acc.

P.S. I am writing my add in complete coz I dont want it to be blocked or something.

Ok here's what I did..
Here goes...

First you need to obtain the JPGL.dll from the driver somewhere on the net. I downloaded the software for the webcam and unpacked the exe with winrar and found JPGL.dll.
Perhaps you can also find it in the drivers you downloaded.

Then you copy the dll to c:/windows/system
Then you make a new string value in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc (Can't remember which one is the right place. So just make a new string value each place.
Name it JPGL.dll

This is all I know.
Hope it works for you..

The right place is in drivers.desc, I've just checked :)

Neil N
18th April 2007, 13:26
It still dint work out. SO after getting that JPGL.dll i thought i will take the exact driver of the cam and installed the inf file. WIth the same driver also it dint run.

Back at home I just connect the USB webcam and then it says u need to install this driver. I go through the wizard and complete the installation. And after that i am able to play the files. Dont know that just that when i dont have the webcam installing the driver is not possible or something is missing.

Is there something like the installation of dlls is not happening properly? But then I tried nightrhymes solution also by making entries in the registries. Are there any other places also where i need to make the entries ?

DarkZell666
18th April 2007, 13:29
Infact, I believe another entry should be added to the Drivers32 section:

Add a new string value named "vidc.JPGL", and set it's value to "jpgl.dll".

At least the video should open in vdub now ...
Try rebooting the computer once you've added the entries just in case.

Neil N
18th April 2007, 13:54
Hey ya dude... i tried that also. I installed the other dll's also which were included in the webcam driver which i had got. some pcamm.dll , Twain_32.dll , div_iyuv.dll just like nightrhymes suggestion from the regedit.

Rebooted. Tried with Virtual dub 1.6.17.

How can i verify if dlls are registered. Coz i am thinking if somewhere it has not been registered properly. But then creating keys and having the dll is it. Still I dont know what the problem is.

DarkZell666
18th April 2007, 14:32
- Launch mmsys.cpl (from Start > Execute ...)
- Go to "Hardware" tab
- Double-click on "Video codecs"
- Goto "Properties" tab.
There you should see a codec with no description (or if you were smart enough to add a description to the codec in the drivers.desc registry, something named "your description").
If you do see something like that, double click on it and see what shows up ...

All I did was :
- Install .inf (which didn't do what was expected)
- Copy jpgl.dll into windows\system32
- Added both entries in Drivers32 and drivers.desc

Here is what I have now :
http://xasonline.info/doom9/jpgl_info.png

DarkZell666
18th April 2007, 14:45
In fact, the inf file does what we are doing now, along with much more stuff. So basically, you need to do everything that's in the .inf file, but manually >_< (so what's the use for the .inf file then, I hear you ask ? ...).

Mind you, what's wrong with having the camera plugged in when installing the drivers/codecs ? Do the videos stop working when you unplug the camera ? oO

Neil N
19th April 2007, 08:33
Ya i tried that thing. But it seems my driver is not functioning properly. I have attached the image. YOu can check in it.

I probably will have to reinstall the driver. So in that case i will jsut delete all dll's and then create keys in registry ?

Sorry to ask such small problems. But I have not worked on dll and registry entries that much so dont have much information. A newbie.

Well n yeah i forgot to tell you why am i doing this. Actually the thing is i am staying away from my house and I have the webcam at my place which I cant use it here at my workplace. And plus my cam would also break down sometime so I might need to play the files without having the webcam. So now when anyways i dont have the webcam I thought i might as well try it out.

If you're on XP and you put it in windows\system, it won't work without specifying the path, it has to be in windows\system32. system only works on 98. When in doubt, it's always better to fully specify the path, instead of leaving it to the system to find.

DarkZell666
19th April 2007, 10:26
Wow that's wierd. Did you try with the jpgl.dll that was in the package I mirrored (here (http://xasonline.info/doom9/PNP2205.zip)) ? Other than that, we did the same thing ...

Let's try doing it "completely" :

Try this:
- Get the package I've mirrored
- Unzip and copy jpgl.dll, p35e_32.dll and p35uds.dll into windows\system32
- Launch 1 by 1 the .reg files that follow (I've translated them from the .inf file, you're free to check what's inside first) :

http://xasonline.info/doom9/P35U_HKLM_MediaSets.reg
http://xasonline.info/doom9/JPGL_MediaResources.reg
http://xasonline.info/doom9/P35UDS_HKCR_CLSID.reg
http://xasonline.info/doom9/JPGL_drivers.desc.reg
http://xasonline.info/doom9/JPGL_Drivers32.reg

- Start > Execute > "notepad %WINDIR%\system.ini" (type as-is)
- Modify the file to add the bolded line : ; for 16-bit app support
[drivers]
wave=mmdrv.dll
timer=timer.drv
[mci]
[driver32]
VIDC.JPGL=jpgl.dll
[386enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
woafont=app850.FON
EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80850.FON
EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40850.FON
CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80850.FON
CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40850.FON

- Reboot (necessary for the registry to refresh properly)

Now ... if it still doesn't work ... you're damned ! :p

Neil N
23rd April 2007, 15:18
Well finally it is working. I think there is some pre requisite problem or some blocking problem of some machiens here at my work place coz i tried on 4 machines here but it dint get installed then i went back home and installed on other machine. Any way we can understand why it dint get installed on these machines ?

And ya but this vdub is way too slow. It is not displaying lot of frames coz of that. I am trying vegas today. But it needs activation code , etc.

Is there any way that i can convert it to mpeg or something. That wud be the best.

DarkZell666
23rd April 2007, 15:42
What do you mean by too slow ?

What resolution are your video's ? What's their original framerate ?
I don't remember vdub being particularly slow (it's rather faster than other software AFAIK ...).

You might manage to convert them using mencoder, since mencoder can load vfw codecs via mplayer's codecs.conf file.

But hmm that slowness problem needs some extra explanations, it doesn't make sense ... :/

Neil N
23rd April 2007, 16:00
Slow in the sense. THe frames are not being displayed properly. AS far as i remember the videos were quite good. Now it is getting stuck at some time in between and then getting played after 20 seconds etc. SO you know the video is more of breaks through vdub.

Neil N
23rd April 2007, 16:03
Any tool mencoder ?? I tried is this the correct site ? http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

DarkZell666
23rd April 2007, 16:39
Yup, but you're better off getting it from here (http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/mplayer/mplayer2007.03.31.7z)
Then download this (http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/windows-essential-20061022.zip) codec pack for mplayer and unzip all the files in the codecs directory. In fact, I've just noticed that JPGL support is part of the essential codec pack, so opening the video in mplayer/mencoder should work straight away (no need mess with the config). (Search for "JPGL" here (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/codecs-status.html))

All you'll need to do is become familiar with the mencoder command-line.

To have a quick try to see if mplayer will open it, just open a console in the mplayer directory and launch :mplayer "c:\path\to\your\JPGLvideo.avi"

Hope this gets you out of trouble ^^

Neil N
24th April 2007, 11:40
I have broken my head to get this thing. I tried using mplayer but it is not playing the file. Fortunately i am able to play it through virtual dub as i said... but not dunno why not through mplayer and so cannot convert through mencoder also.

But this is MEncoder requires so much of command lines. Just one thing... initially at start u had said this is vfw and only can be played on a few players...

How can we play on other players ? mpeg etc ? Wat do i need to do for that ?

Neil N
24th April 2007, 11:43
I meant windows media player etc. So that it would be easier for me to convert these files. And next time on other machines i need not need to do all this shit.

DarkZell666
24th April 2007, 12:39
The only way to decode your jpgl videos is through VFW (and jpgl.dll is a VFW codec). ffdshow actually offers a wrapper around VFW for DirectShow (which is what I suggested you try last time, but we didn't get it to work).

Actually, I've just noticed that ffdshow's "MJPEG" decoder, supports the LJPG format, which should be VERY close to your JPGL format.

Try this :
- Download avic (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/avic_download.shtml)
- Launch avic
- Open one of your files inside avic
- Note the 2 fourCC codes that are mentionned (copy/paste in a text file or write them on a piece of paper)
- change the codes to LJPG (the fourCC ffdshow supports)
- save + exit
- Try opening the file in WMP (ffdshow should be configured as I said here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=990578#post990578))

If it doesn't work, can you upload one of your video's so I can have a try ?

Anyway, if they open in vdub, you can use vdub to encode them to XviD or DivX if you have them installed. If you really want MPEG, ffdshow can also be used as an encoder in vdub an it supports encoding in MPEG-1/2/4 too :)

Dude,
ONE :
I downloaded avic tried to change it on two different machines. And i tried to change the fourCC and then I changed the ffdshows settings but naa...

TWO:
I tried to look in vdub .. how can i convert it to divx. But I couldnt find it. I am not at all understanding why. Tried to find in help but no. I tried to run it through divx player/convertor but no.

THREE:
I installed this codec PICVideo.Lossless.JPEG.CODEC.v2.10.29.exe which was said to be DirectShow codec for JPGL. So i installed it ... but now some Data Execution Program blocks it (some xp shit)... says it wont run.

but now some Data Execution Program blocks it (some xp shit)... says it wont run. That can be disabled (temporarily) easily enough :) Read here (http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=disable+DEP&meta=) (first result, somewhere in the middle of the page of the result).

For the vdub stuff, you need to have DivX or XviD installed to be able to use them. To change codec, you need to go into "Video > Compression ...". If DivX or XviD aren't listed, then you don't have them installed. But you should see "ffdshow video codec" listed. Choose your codec and click on "configure" to set the options (I won't go any further, I've done more than I should have already). Then click "File > Save as avi ..." and it should encode no problem.

The fact that changing the fourCC didn't work only half surprises me, but it was worth having a try. Don't forget to restore the old fourCC's right ?

You should be out of trouble now ... I think ;)
