Hi everybody, I am a newbie and this is my first post on here.

My problem is leading me to tear my hair out.

I recently acquired a BUSLink/LITE-ON burner and my initial attempts to backup my collection went well after carefully reading and following all the steps outlined on here and various other sites. Recently, however, I've had nothing but coaster after coaster come out. The discs do not playback anywhere even though every step of the process goes without a hitch (no error messages). Nothing works, even unencrypted films.

I am using Memorex DVD+RW discs and
1)DVD Decrypter for ripping,
2)DVD Shrink for compression
3)ImgTool for the .ISO image
4)DVD Decrypter for the final burn.

Each step of the way, the appropriate program indicates a successful operation in their messages.

One thing I have noticed is that the discs that work say "Formatted:
Yes" on the right information panel side of DVD Decrypter whereas the ones that are coasters say "Formatted: No(started)" in the same box. Could that be the problem? If no, then what else could I try?

Any & all help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, tvg:

I have neither confronted this same problem, nor know how to solidly fix it, even after doing some research this afternoon. Here are some suggestions:

First off, check your compatiblity options, this has all the earmarks of a classic media compatibility issue. Look for specific input on the Memorex rewritable discs, RW-able media can be a finicky animal.
player/media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers)
burner/media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters)

Check that DMA mode is enabled in Device Manager for the burner.
Check on firmware updates for your specific burner model.

Post back and tell us if any of these options helped, and supply feedback of further research on your part. In the event that you can't get this sorted, we'll move it to the Burning Forum where it can maybe get some eyeballs on it that don't drop in on Newbies often.

You can also run searches specific to the Burning Forum, I've done that, but have only gone through the first three pages, or so; your keywords will be different than mine, and therefore, maybe more effective. :) Keep clicking back through the threads in the Burning Forum and see if something jumps off the screen at you....it happens!

When you execute a "bump", it's always good etiquette to supply a little more information along with it. G'Luck

I do appreciate your help, ammck55. I would like to ammend my first post. I went back and tried again and the "coasters" do play on the PC I burned them on, but not on my other computers or standalone DVD machines. I checked the compatibility list and all my standalone players are supposed to support +RW. What's perplexing is I did a backup of one of my films the first time and the +RW plays perfectly on everything. In DVD Decrypter, the "Formatted" column says "Yes" for the one that can play while the coasters that only play on the PC that I burn on say "No (started)". Isn't the actual formatting automatic during the process? So I'm stumped.
