cant edit movie clips

I downloaded some movie files compressed with Divx and I am trying to cut the beginning credits off. I have edited past clips with VirtualDub before but for some reason the clips I just downloaded couldnt be trimmed off. The credits are still there regardless of how deep into the movie I cut them. The size does seem to reduce but I dont know what got cut out if it really did get cut.

Are they protected or something?
