Hi, I would convert a 24-bit audio track to a 16-bit one to get an audio cd from a dvd!
If a track is 16-bit, no problem: ripping, downsamplig, normalization, splitting and burning; or if it's an ac3 one, use besweet first!

My question is: can I convert from 24 to 16 bit WITHOUT HAVING A 24bit SOUNDCARD??? How does PowerDVD do to let me listen to a 24-bit track ??

Is there a plug-in or something for Cool Edit pro ??

Thanks in advance
Joe

Try ssrc 1.29 (shibatch rate converter (http://shibatch.sourceforge.net)). It lets you convert the sample rate too. It's fast and will do the job with quality and love.;)
Much faster than cool edit pro (at least with sample rate conversion).

bye

I have found that the best program to use for sample rate conversion is Diamondcut

http://www.diamondcut.com/

Uses Noise-shaping to do a great job. Samples upto 96/24 with very audible results.

Here (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?showtopic=17135&hl=) is an interesting discussion thread about using ssrc for downsampling and reducing the sample rate.

Anyway CoolEditPro can do the job without problems (edit -> convert sample rate, or something like that).

As the hydrogenaudio thread states, noise shaping is the best. If you are going to do re-sampling

Do it once-do it right.

There was recently a big discussion on the Sursound Digest about this topic. The great names in the audio industry like to use noise-shaping.

This is only my own viewpoint.
Just meant to show another way of re-sampling. I myself used to be happy with Audition/Cooledit, but after hearing the difference Diamondcut made to the sound, I was hooked.
And now as I have almost worked out Sonic Audio creator, I want to be able to put the best possible sounds onto DVDA.
Also the new Wavelab 5 will be able to use the files as will.

Just my 2 credits worth.
