Verification if Burner is Bad??

Any ideas on determining if drive has failed or starting to fail. All was fine and now when I burn I get decent video for short period then freezes, and the last couple discs I have tried copying are disc error..in stand-alone and computer dvd player. I have tried using nero and decrypter? Its an optprite burner. Tired of creating expensive coasters. Also media is ritekG04. Any help would be awesome...thanks!

Also, are differnet lasers used for reading and burning? Valid previously burned discs are playing and being read fine in this burner.

The first idea would be to try different media - best something reliable like Verbatim DVD-R/+R.
If that doesn't work either, you can be 99% sure your burner is bad...
