Recently, I've upgraded to winxp pro, and an asus x-series motherboard. I can no longer capture anything from my sony dcr-trv210 digital handycam (I could before with 98se)via firewire. The new hardware wizard comes up telling me I need drivers for the cam (which there are none). Sony says I don't, but that I do for the TI IEEE1394 interface (there are also none). TI tells me no to that. I have searched all through the forums, and haven't come across anything like this. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?
First, and foremost, thanks!

an asus x-series motherboard
Which one? There are many Asus X series boards.
In general, I would start with installing the appropriate chipset drivers
(Intel inf installer, VIA 4in1 or whatever fits the chipset on your board)

Sorry 'bout that! It's an asus A7V8X-MX (VIA KM400 series chipset)... The chipset is Rev.58.02... I'll check out the newest drivers for them, and report back...

Well, using the updater, it tells me there isn't a new file to update to, or isn't found. I'll keep looking, but that download page is a little intimidating... thx, arachnotron...

I ment these:
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300
These are the latest chipset drivers for all the VIA chipsets.
But this probably won't help you. I assumed you had a on-board firewire device, but the asus A7V8X-MX does not have one. So I suppose you have a separate card for this.
Anyway, that is not your problem. If the camera is seen as 'new hardware' when you plug it in, the firewire interface must be functioning. So apart from the obvious 'are you running the latest service pack (sp1) and directX version (9)' I have no more advice to offer, sorry.

Yes, again, I've not given all the info. I have a TI 1394 OHCI Compliant interface adapter. And I'm running an iBot webcam (successfully) on it. The hardware wizard recognizes it need drivers for a Sony DVCam, but cannot find them. And I do have the latest sp1 and directx. At any rate, thanks for looking this over, and for the suggestions!
Although I don't know the solution to your problem, I'd like to say this: If you plug in your camcorder, XP should recognize it automatically with the drivers included in the OS. Maybe you should try to uninstall the driver that came with your card.

Well, I took the easy way out. I uninstalled the sony dvcamcorder driver, and instead used the microsoft dvcam ones... seems to work!
Thanks for all your help guys!
