B&W video wash-out after shrinking

I did a join-split backup of the B&W movie Schindler's List. Each half was compressed lightly (< 10%) with DVD Shrink 3.1.7b5. Deep analysis was used. Thought it would be perfect, but the result video has bright scenes (sunny window, close-up facial) noticebly washed out with poor contrast.

I did not see this before, is this something with B&W movie?. Could anyone explain?.

I also tried compression with InstantCopy and that was better, but the second disc was severely undersized. Anybody has good success with backing up this DVD?
