View Full Version : WAY Slow!

OK, I've read the forum and the FAQ and tried tweaking the performance settings, but here's the scoop:

On a really ballsy computer, Dr.Divx can encode an MPEG in about an hour (from a 1-hour TV show).

Using VirtualDubMod with the same basic settings in the Divx codec (1-pass, etc.) it takes almost 3 hours.

Yikes! 3 times as slow?!

Is this just a limitation of VirtualDubMod, am I doing something really stupid and wrong, or is VDM doing something more elaborate than Dr.Divx?

Thanks for any insight on this.

P.S. Why am I using VDM over DrDivx? I need script-driven file conversions (MPEG2 to AVI) which the Dr doesn't seem to support.

a) dont encode inside vdub
b) if you have to, use fast recompress if possible
c) use avisynth, mpeg2dec3.dll, Mpeg2source() and avs2avi to encode.
