Hi,
i want do backup my DVD's on my modded XBOX. I think AutoGK or FairUse should be the right tools for me.
But what are the best settings for PAL DVD's with AC3 sound?
I want to play the XviD files with XBOXMEDIACENTER and AC3 ist a must.
Is this possible?
What are the right settings on these tools to get AC3 work on XBOX?
Should i encode the full PAL DVD size 720x576 to XviD?
Thanks...

You could ask the devs of the XboX Media Player to tell you which version of XviD they added support to lately and if it decodes AC3, or just take a look at the program's specs.:D

AC3 works fine for me on XBMC, no need to tweak or anything.
I make a lot of 3-movies DVDs, with 720x576 anamorphic resolution and AC3 soundtrack, looks just like the original DVD.

Lagoon: I've been making 3 DVD backup discs (like Die Hard Trilogy) myself with matroska and chapters but I don't have a mod chip yet :(
Hell I don't even have surround sound setup anymore but one day I will again so that AC3 will come in handy.
I just started doing full NTSC resolution (minus black bars of course) so its good to hear the xbox can play them back.

XBMC is truely the most amazing piece of software i've ever had the pleasure of using. It's the single greatest reason to own an xbox.
Anyway, XBMC will play AC-3 beautifully. Try keep the resolution below 720 though as it's only got a 733Mhz P3 and 64MB of ram. It can jump in places if too much processing is needed. I usually stick to about 640*480 and everything plays very smooth.

I've had no problems with full res PAL rips either, using AC3 and XviD 1.0b3.

I intend to buy an XBOX and mod it with an 80Gb HDD in the near future for playing XviD backups of my DVDs. I have a question: how would I go about copying the backups from my PC to the XBOX's HDD?

fagankev, xbox has no problem playing high rez xvid, even 1024*576 works fine, however avoid at all cost AAC audio, as it seems its making the video stutters.
CHAINMAX, simply via LAN, the xbox has a 100mbit port.

Yeah, you actually use a simple ftp app and a crossover cable or whatever. my buddy does this all the time with his 120gb modded xbox - its fucking incredle - way sweet.

You can, of course, play your rips back off CD or DVD media. (Although your success CD-R and various DVD+R types depends on what model Xbox you have...there are three different brands of DVD-ROM they use.)
And, you can also have your videos streamed across the network. I don't store any movies on my Xbox hard drive unless I'm taking it away with me. They all just stream from a samba share on my PC.
