Does anyone know if it is possible to playback the .mp4 standard file
with Real Player without using the Envivio plug-in?
Is there an alternative? I once downloaded and installed the Envivio plug-in but I also have uninstalled and trashed it. I know it's since been taken off their site as an free download.
Is the RealPlayer only able to play back .mp4 files that have been created with RealSystem Products?
Anybody know of any plug-ins for Real Player to playback .mp4 content?
I want to encode .mp4 content stream on QuickTime's streaming Server and be able to view itusing any RealPlayer.

why do you need realplayer?
there are lots of other players available which can play streamed .mp4 files (have a look at the mp4 faq)
also the nice thing about .mp4 files is, that they are standardised in the mpeg-4 standard, meaning it doesnt matter which tool you use to create them, they can all be played on all .mp4 players

I'm trying to see if there is a way to tap into the fact that .mp4 content cannot only be played back with the QuickTime 6 player but also with RealPlayer (if that's the case).
I want to begin encoding .mp4 content but also need to justify that it's going to be a good thing to do. Playing .mp4 standard files in QuickTime 6 and RealPlayer would provide justification. If it's a matter of using a .mp4 media player I could just have viewers download QuickTime 6 or some of these other .mp4 Media Players.
Does anyone see some type of .mp4 media player being bundled with the Windows Operating System in the future. If so which one do yhou think would be.
I did look at the .mp4 FAQ. I get very confused with a lot of the .mp4 technical lingo.

well windows media player can play *.mp4 just fine with a dshow fillter installed like 3ivx. So theres already a media player bundeld with windows that can play mp4 files.

well the point is imo that realplayer doesnt support .mp4 without additional plugins (like envivio) as real wants to push its proprieatary .rm format of course
the same goes for m$' wmp9, as m$ wants to push .wmv
the only one who really follows the mpeg-4 standard (without the need for additional plugins) of the "big 3" players is apple with quicktime
but next to quicktime, if you want to use the windows media player, you should try the 3ivx, dicas mpegable or enviviotv plugins (the last two also work with streamed content)

We have no problems with the .mp4 file format, and RealPlayer plays AAC in MP4 (M4A) without any problems. More to come when RealPlayer 10 Gold comes out. The problem with MPEG-4 video is called MPEG LA, which is why we do not at this time provide playback capability of MPEG-4 video, just like many others.

I appreciate the responses to my .mp4 playback issue and was able to get the great information on the available Decoders for the Windows Media Player. I ended up downloading and installing the MPEGABLe Decoder for Windows Media Player and it worked great at playing back my .mp4 files. Thanks for the comments and suggestions you made.
