mkv to vcd?

Well.... i was totally wondering. Ive got a bunch of mkv files (about 25) and i want to convert them to vcd... but without losing the softsubs. Is there any way to convert them to hardsubs so i could then just throw a file at a VCD encoder?

if you know these things... you gotta tell me!
i wanna watch my vids on my tv :(
