Hi
I think XCD is one of the most important programs in household processing of personal DVDs into ordinary CDs without easily detectable loss of quality, in line with XivD/DivX, AutoGK/GK and DVDDecrypter/SmartRipper.
I process my vobs with AutoGK 1.05b to produce custom-sized larger-than-700MB .avi; and I'd like to have external subs (as thousands do). AutoGK produces subs in .idx /.sub form.
Now how do I make the m2 image so that the .idx /.sub subs play? They will not play with a video file with .dat extension.

There are two tricks you could try:
- Leave your movie as moviename.avi.dat and rename your subs to moviename.avi.idx and moviename.avi.sub
- Leave your subs as moviename.idx and moviename.sub and change the movie extension from dat to avi (you can do that in the mode2cdmaker GUI)
alexnoe of avi-mux had suggested that one can make the m2 image without the .dat extension.
I think this issue may be included in the FAQ.
Regards.
