View Full Version : AutoGK 1.05b, XCD and external subs

Hi

I think XCD is one of the most important programs in household processing of personal DVDs into ordinary CDs without easily detectable loss of quality, in line with XivD/DivX, AutoGK/GK and DVDDecrypter/SmartRipper.

I process my vobs with AutoGK 1.05b to produce custom-sized larger-than-700MB .avi; and I'd like to have external subs (as thousands do). AutoGK produces subs in .idx /.sub form.

Now how do I make the m2 image so that the .idx /.sub subs play? They will not play with a video file with .dat extension.

gircobain, a member at this forum, suggested:

There are two tricks you could try:
- Leave your movie as moviename.avi.dat and rename your subs to moviename.avi.idx and moviename.avi.sub
- Leave your subs as moviename.idx and moviename.sub and change the movie extension from dat to avi (you can do that in the mode2cdmaker GUI)

alexnoe of avi-mux had suggested that one can make the m2 image without the .dat extension.

I think this issue may be included in the FAQ.

Regards.

Hi again

What is the meaning of the word b0rked ?

I am alarmed to read that LG 16X DVD-ROM is a b0rked drive, I have one ! I have noticed it playing XCDs perfectly well except onle a few and I suspect in those occasions my writing (I use Nero 6.0.0.5) could have been erroneous. Nero does give a message that if joliet restrictions are relaxed in filenames, then the CD may not be readable in DOS/NT based OSs. I suspect I may have done something like that to prevent all-caps in the filenames...

Can you please point me to an XCD-guide (not doom9's - I have gone through that) ?

Regards.

guys, this a sticky faq thread. don't turn it into something else pls. you can open another thread, or use an existing one. don't clutter this one pls (most likely, these posts will be moved elsewhere soon).

thank you.

I didn't know that one couldn't post at a sticky thread.

So if you ask a question in another thread and you think the answer should be in the sticky, then you post it there. What is the meaning of the word b0rked ? Broken, messed up, not right, wrong, silly, etc.

BTW, would a container mod please move these posts elsewhere?

This is to report these findings:

The first method produced these files in the CD:

1. Moviename.avi.dat (this is written in m2)
2. Moviename.avi.idx
3. Moviename.avi.rar

This first method worked. The subs came out nice and clear.

The second method produced these files in the CD:

1. Moviename.avi.avi (this is written in m2)
2. Moviename.idx
3. Moviename.rar

This second method did not work. The subs weren't visible.

I wrote the same file in Nero express using same settings on media of the same brand in the same computer.

I'll soon report on alexnoe's suggestion.

Thanks, gircobain.

There's a question: - Is a custom size of 790 MB set in AutoGK (for a 2.5 hrs movie) a safe maximum to burn with sub-files (.idx and .rar) at m2 on a 700MB CD ?

Regards.
