View Full Version : What's NeroDigitals Mpeg4 4cc code?

I've been playing (like you do) with some of Nero Digital's Recode2 encodes.

I've generated a few short encodes, which are ofcourse in an .MP4 container and then I've used MP4UI to extract the Mpeg4 video stream out of the .MP4 container to .AVI container

When you do this the encodes 4cc is automatically given: -
4CC: DivX / Name: DivX4 (OpenDivX) - As checked with Gspot

Curiously however, the file will not play at all in MPC (or any other player) until the 4CC is changed to XviD or 3viX

But I'm wondering if there is a 4CC code for Nero Digital, so I could get the Mpeg4 stream to play with its own decoder!

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

PS: Is there a list of 4CC/Name codes?

ND doesn't write to vfw, only mp4 as far as I know, so it wouldn't have a fourcc. Nor does it need one, since all mpeg 4 video should theoretically be created equal as far as decoders are concerned. For avi, just use mp4v.

its NDIG Great. It works perfectly!

I guess in theory, by using MP4UI it would be possible to demux an NeroDigital Recode2 encode and play the stream in an standalone player.

It's a shame that even the new versions of Nero's filters still can't encode and decode 2.35:1 material properly

Thanks #1

Yes, I've just tried it with my Xcard.

At first Sigmas XmediaPlayer said the format was 'not recognized' but offered to play it... which it did.

Is there any particular reason why Gpot announces 'codec NOT installed' but MPC and all the other software players (including WMP9) can now find the codec?

I've just changed the 4CC of one of my 2.35:1 anamorphic XviD .AVI encodes to NDIG. And WMP9 now opens it at the correct AR.

However you must have the correct version of Nero's 'NEvideo.ax' to do this!

Just thought some of you would like to know!

Cheers

EDIT: I've just had another thought. If XviD's AVI anamorphic encodes can open up at the correct AR in WMP9 (albeit using Nero decoder filter). Surly XviD could modify their own decoder filter to do the same!

Did you also mux the AAC audio stream to avi? I did not manage this at all. It always seams that the demuxed AAC is no longer "valid".

And did you play the AVI file on a standalone? On my Hiteker He940 it did not play. The screen stays black an the time jumps in 4 second-steps (like in XviD RC1 encodes, but no longer in RC2 and later...)

Hi Morpheus_xx,

Unfortunately, the current version of MP4UI does create broken AAC streams after extraction. And previous versions of MP4UI can't extract the audio stream as an .aac file, only as an .bin file. From Nero sources.

I don't have a stand alone 'hardware' player, so I'm unable to test extracted AVI streams with such equipment. However I do have an Sigma Xcard (a PC hardware player) and I'm happy to report that the video streams do work. Provided that the 4CC is changed to XviD.
