i just update my vobsub from v2.23 to latest v2.33 cause i need subs for those divx encode with vp62
now the override placement doesn't work anymore
i alway enable extend to 4:3 so the subs would appear on the bottom black bar but now every movies start with the sub in the middle of the movie (same position for every movie as though it ignore the override option), i have to manually open the vobsub dialog and click OK before the subs move to the bottom black bar.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to position the video such that a single black bar is below the video, allowing maximum room for subtitles underneath (with no black bar between the top of the active picture and the top of the frame)? I want to display subtitles with vp62, but moving the picture is a top priority... :-(

OK, wata I had to test it to understand your issue as I always ask vobsub to keep original ratio, and default BSPlayer's INI file to not show subtitles, if any. And having some problems with OGM and MKV containers feature with BSPlayer, I finally moved from vobsub 2.23 to VSfilter v2.33 too (but it's an other story).
... Finally, I got the same issues there.
- Subtitles are shown centered, for all textual subtitles (embedded or not), if Override Placement bouton in VSFilter traybar is not checked.
- In BSPlayer v1.00.807 and MPC v6.481, using vobsub files v7 (.idx+.rar) :( . Be quite, you're not alone, I confirm  I've seen the subtitles jumping down into the black strip when clicking on apply in the General tab of the VSfilter property sheet.
But on an older movie, using vobsub files v5 (.idx+.rar+.ifo), I didn't got this. Then I came back to first movie, found the bug again, played a bit with the override placement bouton in VSFilter traybar...
And now I'm a bit confused, sometimes I can reproduce the bug and sometimes not... (override placement bouton is let unchecked, as usually). Think I need to have rest now.
Yes, Chez_Wimpy, both MPC and BSPlayer can do that (with various numpad keys, "5" is for reseting to default) but unfortunally, subtitles displayed with VSfilter stick to the picture and scroll with it :(

wata, it may be a conflict of settings in registry, between VSFilter and DVobsub.
I've removed all the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest from the registry. And with these default settings, subtitles are corrctly placed at the bottom.
At first, you may want to remove only DVobsub settings in the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\DVobsub. To do this, create a new file with notepad, copy and past this in it:
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\DVobsub]
Now save it (for instance) under "c:\clr_DVobsub.reg", (cotes inclueded in order to avoid .txt extension). Finally, execute this new file.
Hope it helps, now I really go to bed!

thanks for the suggestions but it didn't work for me.
i unregister the old dvobsub.ax, delete the gabest key, and register vsfilter.dll
the subs still show in the picture not on the black bar.
:(
