My Question AGAIN:
"I searched the whole forum for 'Hyperthread" and didn't find much. Does anyone know if the latest DivX Codec is optimized (or is being optimized) for a hyperthreading computer?"

jggimi's Reply:
"Hello, iPAQ, welcome to Doom9's forum.

You asked this same question, with more detail, in the General Discussion forum. The link is http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72595

Asking the same question in two different forums is called "Cross posting" and is a faux pas (Rule #8), because it splits the discussion into mutiple places.

I am closing this thread; interested parties should respond in the other."

 THAT was RUDE! - I had heard that Doom9 had SOME unfriendly's but in my 40 years working with people concerning computers (yes, prior to PC's), I have never been treated so rudely! I Post ALOT on encoding movies just not here (and by the way, they TALK about the attitude here from SOME - I just didn't believe it. If you READ my question that you CLOSED, it is SPECIFICALLY about the DivX Codec! THAT is why I posted it in the DIVX ENCODING Forum!

My other post that you so SMUGLY linked is SPECIFICALLY about possible ways that I thought Hyperthreading computers might be better utilized since I know little about them (although I have a screamer on order) and it was posted in GENERAL DISCUSSION and I will be surprised if I even get a reply. It doesn't even mention the DivX Codec! Because I wanted an answer from someone on the DivX Codec, I asked HERE - the CORRECT place to post it (maybe not, CoreCodec.com and DivX.com are friendlier)!

Did the mention in both places that I searched the database of threads before posting throw you or did using the same word "Hyperthreading" throw you?

NOT "Cross posting" and NOT "splitting the discussion into multiple places"! Or is it just "pick on the new guy"? And yes, I know that capitalizing is YELLING. Have a nice day!

I hardly know where to start but if you think that jggimi's polite response to your rule-breaking post is the worst ever treatment you've experienced in 40? years then you're in for a VERY short ride at doom9.

Since you didn't learn anything from his attempt to kindly point you to the rules I will enforce them.

Now now ipaq please keep the tone down a little bit. No matter how offended you got by having your post closed you have no right to respond to Jggimi in that way. Remember that this is a public forum. Lots of people are probably going to read that post, and language like the one you are using is likely to offend lots of people who by chance click into your thread - people who read the post subject and maybe wants to help you - or just people who have an interest in the subject.

Take me for example. I just got out of bed after having been to a party last night, having a bit of a hangover, walk over to my computer clicks into doom9's forum, goes through unread posts - and the first post I stumble upon is your thread :( And boy if that ain't a bad way to start your day - on top of my hangover I have to listen to your unfair yelling. Take it from me - although I'm rather new here, I long ago learned that the way you are behaving is a really bad idea. And actually that goes for most places, not just this forum.

Imagine you come to a new town on a vacation and go to the combined tourist information / post office. Let's for simplicity say that there's only two counters standing close together and one person standing behind each counter. You go over to the tourist information counter and ask a question about some local tourist attractions and the person behind the counter says to you: "please wait a little while while I consult my maps and make a couple of phone calls."
While you wait you go over to the post office counter just beside the tourist information counter and asks the person standing there (who of course have heard your question to the tourist information worker) a question which sounds similar to your first question (it may or may not be the same question - that really doesn't matter) and the post office worker says to you that he/she doesn't want to answer your question as his coworker in the tourist info already is working on it, and that you should wait there instead of asking the same question two times. (again it doesn't matter if the worker answers you rather shortly or whether he is right or not in saying that it is the same question you just asked at the tourist info)

You then respond to the post office worker by heaping abuse on him, yelling and screaming about how rude he/she is being to you - my only question to you is: Who's really being rude there?

I don't know how well-chosen my allegory i, but my point is that you behaviour is unacceptable - both in a forum like this one and in real life. If you want some help around here please stop behaving like that. Especially towards the mods as they are doing a great job trying to keep this place together, making sure as best they can that redundant information is kept as low as possible and that you don't waste peoples time with asking similar questions in multiple forums.

(Sorry for the long post, but I just had to get this off my chest ;) )

Not to prolong this off-topic but jggimi and I have had a nice discussion on PM (where my reply should have gone in the first place). Jggimi acknowleged that he might have mistakenly closed my post and he tries to avoid chastising new members publicly for unintentional mistakes. I acknowledged and apologized for my angry public response and recognize that there were a couple of better avenues to privately appeal. I explained some extenuating (but not forgiving) circumstances and I think we're cool. Sorry
