What is your opinion and experience?

It all depends on what system your are running and your motherboard.

If you can still find any with the Winbond BH5 chips then that otherwise Winbond BH6 is pretty good with AMD Athlon setups.

More generally, I have Kingston HyperX DDR Ram in my PC and it's excellent. It has an aluminum heat spreader that helps protect the memory during high-memory intensive tasks (like encoding) or overclocking. PCMag put it in their computer they built, so I put it in mine :D Also checkout:

www.newegg.com

It has tons of user reviews about different manufactorers of memory.

So, to match up I wanna also buy another 512MB DDR400 module !!!

Could you tell me what would be nice for my rig ???

Look @ my sign for the specs... ;)

@Soulhunter

If I take what you're saying correctly, you wanna buy another stick of ram? Most motherboards (mine at least) require you to have the same make and CAS latency of the ram (in order to get dual-channel support). So in this respect you'll be stuck with whatever you have in there already.

@ Soulhunter

I would say some good DDR400 modules from Mushkin (check their website for the new product)to be honest. They might be a bit more expensive but are rated at 2-2-2 timings with will give very nice performance on an AMD like yours. Otherwise the HyperX DDR400 would be good but most only do 2-2-3 now. Still very fast though.

Have some CL2.5 so far !!!

Would this be a good combo... ???

-> Kingston HyperX DIMM 512MB PC3200 DDR CL2-2-2-6-1T for 132€

Not too sure if your board is dual channel ... if it is then rather get 2 x 256 mb of that HyperX DDR400 2-2-2-6 as those chips are drying up fast !

I found something scary... :scared:

What does this (http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=002824) mean for my purpose ???

Does this mean If I wanna still use DDR400 I need a 1GB pice of RAM and remove the old 512MB one...

Maybe I could straight go to 2x 1024MB DDR333 then ???

More info Ive found here (http://www.asrock.com/product/product_k7s8xe.htm) n' here... (http://www.ocworkbench.com/2003/asrock/k7s8xe/k7s8xe-1.htm)

I've got Corsair DDR CL2 at work. They are shielded. Dunning Dual Channel at 400MHz #1 :D

for dual channel ram systems there are some sets on the market, which come as matched pairs of ram. theory says that since the rams should have the same specs, matched pairs could increase system stability and even performance.

i got myself a pair of g.e.i.l. matched pair ram and i am very satisfied, but i also have nothing to compare it to ;)

afaik also corsair is offering similar modules.

the best one to get is the highest your Motherboard can actually support :) I know it's simple but it's the truth.

- 1x DDR400/Max.1GB (@ FSB 400/333 MHz)*

- 2x DDR333/Max.2GB (@ FSB 400/333/266/200 MHz)

- 3x DDR266/200/Max.3GB (@ FSB 333/266/200 MHz)

CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400
CPU at FSB 333MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200
CPU at FSB 400MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR200/DDR266

So, should I buy 1GB DDR400 and throw my 512MB away...

lol dude the thread was about MHz not size, I recommended the highest MHz value his board supports, not to max out MBytes.

if your board supports 400MHz memory you should use that (unless money is really in short supply) even if you have Athlon CPU wich only supports 333MHz.

but could you elaborate on the meaning of your numbers

1xDDR400? so what it only accepts 1 stick of DDR400? if it has more slots each should be usable, and since your next line says 2xsomething I assume you do have more slots

I have 4 slot, and I can use 4x1GB DDR 400. there is no limitation based on speed, If your ram and your chipset supports it.

As I uderstand it...

- 1 slot of DDR400 (max 1GB) for 400mhz fsb

- 2 slots of DDR333 (max 2GB) for 333mhz fsb

- 3 slots of DDR266 / DDR200 (max 3GB) for 200mhz fsb

you can fill as much RAM as you want, if your motherboard supports 3 slot, you can have 3xDDR400 or 3xDDR333 and so on. I don't know where you got that info but I'm positive it's wrong.
