View Full Version : XviD messes up with codecs???

I was having problems with GordianKnot: whenever I tried to open anything GK said it was not a valid AVS/AVI file
I tried many things, and then I removed XviD 1.0 RC3. I came to realize that it was the guilty one...
Seems there is some problem with the installation script, cause if I copy xvid.ax and xvidcore.dll in system32 folder and register it by hand (regsvre32 xvid.ax) it works just fine...
I'm using XviD Koepi 1.0 RC3, WinXP... ¿anything else you need?

You would also need xvidvfw.dll, just run the .inf file to install it. Then again maybe if you install the VFW codec you will have the same problems?

It's unlikely that XviD is "guilty" here, that was pure "bad luck".
You should run BigFix16.exe (or try out the Vidc.Cleaner some threads below), it'll sure find what's wrong with your system. Reinstall RC3 afterwards and it should work.
(If that were a xvid problem we would have plenty of posts here complaining about that... so this is the single occurrence of that, thus likely a user/system error.)

I think it is mpeg2dec3.dll causing it. Try re-instaling GK and all the codecs in use.(Also check correct name is choosen in options"mpeg2dec3.dll")

The topic is a little bit older, but I wasn't at my home...
I tried all the things you said, but nothing. I always end at the same: deinstalling XviD and registering it "by hand".
Oh, and if I deinstall XviD and use 3ivx instead, works fine.
