View Full Version : Ending the movie after a specific chapter.

I have 4 movie trailers which are on the same PGC and are separated by chapters. I have menus for each trailer but whenever I play the trailer, it keeps continuing on to the next chapter, hence next trailer. How would I modify the ifo such that it stops after just playing chapter 1 of the PGC and return to the trailer menu?
TIA.

Add a cell command LinkTailPGC, button=0 (code 20 01 00 00 00 00 00 0D) for each cell you want to stop playback after.
Oh yeah ? Which software would you use for that - IfoEdit ?
I would have suggested stripping by chapter with DVDShrink and authoring to multipleVTS or MultiplePGC where you can add more usual commands.

Sorry - not supposed to be sarcastic - I just didn't know it was possible because I never saw it done in any IFO 'till now.
So your saying you can add a cell command for each chapter ?
Thats really powerfull for play lists ;)
cheers

With IfoEdit you can add cell command to any cell. First you need to increase # of cell commands in PGC Command table header, then click on newly created Cell Command #X line and enter command. After that scroll down to Cell Playback info and set Cell Command Nt. to #X.
Whether it correspond to a chapter (PTT) depends on PGC structure. Sometimes a chapter contains more than 1 cell. Only problem is that IfoEdit appers to be buggy here. Sometimes you will need to edit PGC Command table size too (increase by 8 for every added command). Sometimes it won't add a command and sometimes it will but will also completely mess other important data. So it's a trial & error procedure.

In addition to what violao said above, note that you have to create the cell command only once and then you can re-use it for any cell you want to be the last in a playback sequence. Very powerful method indeed, and fast, too.
So theoretically one could make a command sequence for a play list with return to menu after each cell etc.
Thats what I meant when I said I'd never seen this way of autoring.
Trouble with IfoEdit as usual is that it can't grow the Ifo Size and leads to corruption.
About time someone wrote a command editor for IFOs.

Yes, I'll try the IfoEdit way. I think that using DVDShrink to create new PGC's or VTS's will need a lot more tinkering with than creating a new cell command. This problem had me perplexed for a few days so I'll do it as soon as I get home.
BTW, on the subject of chapters and ending them:
How would you do the reverse? That is, make a PGC start at a specific chapter?
I'm guessing that I would have to edit my movie commands instead of my menu commands right? Would it entail removing pre-existing Cell Commands adding a custom Cell Command?
Thanks again.

Of course, if you want to bypass first few chapters permanently, you can add JumpVTS_PTT as a last Pre command and specify a chapter within current title you want to jump to.
Cell commands won't do for this purpose because they are executed after the cell is played.

You are correct and that's why I documented some work arounds for adding cell commands in step 11 of this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67564) so you won't have to trial and error.

Just thought - the cell commands are executed as the cells are played or after play. That means ons can't write scripts using their functios as they always get read.

You could have conditional commands in cells as well.

Oh really ? No DVD I've seen uses that method but its going to be worth a try as one could make playback behave like a multi PGC although its a single PGC.
Oposite to "Play All" whereby play all is standard and play "one" or "list" is optional from a chapter menu.
I noticed that DVDRemake shows some sort of non standard commands but has no editing feature yet - hope thats comming, or even better a standalone IFO command editor ;)

Don't promise stand alone editor, but build-in editor is coming :)
