Stripping and Compressing menus before applying the big3 method. A quicker way
Please note that I wrote this tutorial because I experienced some problems compressing menus with numenu4u (i.e. CCE errors). This guide uses DVDShrink to compress menus and NOT CCE: to use CCE please refer to Numenu4u tutorial.
Many of you will find this guide unuseful because it is actually very simple.
This tutorial will guide you through the process of menu compression. You are supposed to apply those steps before using the big 3 method. To use this method you will need the following software:
Ifoedit
DVDShrink
DVDDecrypter
Nero Burning Rom
[list=1]
Open DVDDecrypter and decrypt all the files from your dvd in File Mode. I will assume that your output folder is C:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\
Analyze the files in the C:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\ folder; determine wich menu files (VTS_XX_0.VOB) you need to compress (you can, for example, dvdplay in ifoedit and read the titlesets it played after navigating to the menu you want to compress, or you can just look at the size of the files). I will assume that you want to compress only the menu in VTS_01_0.VOB.
If you would like to strip any language unit (in the menus with more than one language unit: see Note 1) from the menu go to next step else go to step 10
In ifoedit open c:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO. Click Menu Extras and check:
Strip VobID's
Strip Language Unit's
CorrectVob-Unit
Correct Original ifo files.
Uncheck: Auto Copy Menu Files...
Leave VobExpert options as default.
I'll assume that your output folder is C:\New\. Click OK.
Check the Language unit(s) you want to keep and Correct ifo tables. Clik strip it.
Check again Correct ifo tables and Click again strip it.
When done, move the files in c:\New into c:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\ answering "yes to all" to the overwrite question.
Open again c:\DVD\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO and click get Vts sector.
Press DVDPlay to check if your new file work. It should.
Here if you need you can blank some titlesets (See 2cool stripping guides or use titlesetblanker)
Open DVDShrink
Click Open Files and select c:\DVD\VIDEO_TS.
In the dvd structure section browse to DVD\Menus and Make sure that in "compression settings" - "audio" and "subptcture" *every* audio and subpicture track is selected (you will remove the unwanted stuff during the big 3)
Repeat the previous step browsing to DVD\Main Movie, DVD\Extras and DVD\Unreferenced Material
In the dvd structure section browse to DVD\Menus\VTS1
In compression settings - video select "Custom ratio" and move the slide until you reach your desidered compression.
Since you need to compress only VTS1 Menu, for each Z>1 in the dvd structure section browse to DVD\Menus\VTSZ and in "compression settings" - "video" select "No Compression".
Now browse to DVD\Main Movie and in "compression settings" - "video" select "No Compression".
Now browse to DVD\Extras and in "Compression Settings" - "Video" select "No Compression".
Now browse to DVD\Unreferenced Material and in "compression settings" - "Video" select "No Compression".
Click Backup! button.
It will complain that the dvd is too big. Click yes.
In Target Device select the Image Recorder (I'm assuming you have it installed, it comes with the nero package)
Select a folder for temporary files.
In Backup Options you can select to perform deep analysis.
In Burn settings select a target file name for the image recorder.
Click OK and wait for completion.
When done, mount the image file that DvdShrink created with your preferred virtual dvd unit and start the big 3 method.
That's all folks!

Note 1:
A menu language unit is the part of a menu file that contains a certain language. To check if your menu file is multi-language unit simply open VTS_XX_0.IFO and in VTS overview scroll down to the end of pgc list. There should be a line like this:
Menu Language Units: Y
If Y>1 than your menu file is multi language unit.
PS Sorry for my poor english. I'm Italian.
