i was looking so foward to these, with their 1 Mb lvl2 cache, but someone mentioned that its on a lengthened pipeline (from 20 to 30 or something of the like)

How s the performance compared to the northwood, and AMDs 64s???

Prescott's pipeline has been increased to 31 stages with the aim of more and more clock speed at the expense of IPC. By now its well-known that heat is its main problem, something approaching a nuclear meltdown.:) There are so many reviews on the web, just do a google and you'll be flooded with them, then judge for yourself.

I wouldn't touch one just yet. They still run VERY HOT. Apparently the new D1 stepping should run better/cooler. In some test the old Northwoods still do better. Best would be to wait for the proper Prescotts to arrive i.e. LGA 775 chips.
