View Full Version : AC3Enc and overall volume

In my attempt to move away from using BeSweet to encode my DVD audio to AC3, I am encountering some issues I need some help with.

I posted about surround output here:
http://tinyurl.com/2obuv and have found a suitable workaround.

I have tried SoftEncode (which crahes way too much), Digigram, and Surcode as my new AC3 encoders. I have settled on AC3Enc to encode to AC3 with. When I encoded with BeSweet, I would always boost the audio by a factor of 5 -7, so when playing on a home stereo the volume would be about 1/4 of the way up. But using AC3Enc to encode with, my overall volume output is too low (1/2 way up). I have searched and see that AC3Filter can be adjusted.... but that is on a computer. When encoding to 5.1 I can up the db on all 6 mono wavs in Cool Edit, but that still does not get the audio level high enough.

Question is, is there a way to gain the volume in AC3Enc aside from adjusting the wav properties before encoding? The wav file/s are already at the proper levels (about 95%)

I have analyzed the wav file to determine the avg RMS, and am setting it accordingly in AC3Enc. The overall mix is perfect... I am happy with the mix.....
