Hello,

I posted the problem in the "IFO/VOB editors" forum...
Could you please check and answer there, if you have any idea?
It's not the color problem. Colors are fine when one of the subtitles stream shows up.
Thanks a lot!

Well, did you see the ratio numbers for every subtitle streams?
I supose that you see only the first subtitle and not the rest.
Use this table:

1 (-2147483648)
2 (-2147417856)
3 (-2147352064)
4 (-2147286272)
5 (-2147220480)
6 (-2147154688)
7 (-2147088896)
8 (-2147023104)
9 (-2146957312)
10 (-2146891520)

One value for every subtitle stream.
Let me know what happen.

Thanks for that one, castellanos!

Indeed, now, I'm able to play all the subtitles stearms in the "DVD Play" feature of IFOEDIT.

However, I'm worried that I still can't select between the different subtitles streams in PowerDVD.

I have an idea... I'm quite convinced it wouldn't work (my current knowledge doesn't allow me to guess), but I feel like to try :-)
I'll reauthor the whole movie using DVD shrink, and do it exactly with the same audio and subtitles content (same audio & subtitles streams, in teh same order) as I did it with IFOEDIT. However, it's obvious that video streams won't be the same.

I don't know if "GET VTS SECTORS" of IFOEDIT will be sufficient to adapt the IFO created by DVD Shrink to my VOB files created thanks to IFOEDIT.

I'll give a try.

Well, let me gess something. Are you trying to play the movie with power DVD from your Hard Disk?
If that's the case, let me tell you: (I use WinDVD, but I supose that it is more or less the same) You wouldn't be able to see the subtitles when you play the movie from your HD (Power DVD), because this program, as well as WinDVD, are not able to open the IFO files directly from the HD, an then, they don't know the route to play the sutitles. At last, you will have only the video files and the first audio stream to see and hear.
Of course, IfoEdit can open the IFO file, an then you can see the movie with all the streams.
Check the streams using IfoEdit, then burn the DVD. After that, it should be possible to see it in every DVD sofware player, as well as the normal ones.

I hope that helps.

castellanos,

You're right: I play the files from my HD, because I always check the result before I burn.

I use the "Open DVD file on hard disk" feature of PowerDVD.
That way, you can play the whole content as if it was burned and played from a real DVD. PowerDVD will read the IFO to find all the content.

I did a simple test to check this: rip a DVD fully to my HD, in file mode. And when I play the movie that way, I have access to all the audio and subtitle streams. Very handy feature to test results of your work!

It worked until now, but I never did authoring with IFOEDIT until now either.

This is why I'm still worried... :-)

Note: I did tests on two different computers (not at all the sames: one has an Intel CPU, the other and AMD, one has Windows 2000, the other has XP,...), and restults are the same.

I'll do some more tests and share results!

I currently don't have access to a Windows system, but if you think it might be an authoring problem, try the authoring function in Rejig ...

smiller667,

I tried your suggestion. I got a single VOB file with everything inside, and no IFO file. Is that normal?

I took another path: I made a backup of the original DVD without compression, using DVD Shrink, but reauthoring and choosing exactly the same content (audio and subtitles streams, in the same order). I used the DVD Shrink IFO files with my VOB files created using authoring of IFOEDIT. Then I just did a "Get VTS sectors" on my IFO about to be burned. It seems to work: subtitles are displayed, and are named correctly!

I found no other working way than this one. I hope that it is not a non working solution... It works with PowerDVD and "DVD Preview" of IFOEDIT. Hope I did not forget anything else.

EDIT: chapters were not at the correct place anymore, so I also had to use IFOUPDATE in "Standard mode", with original IFO = the one produced by DVD Shrink that was fixed by "GET VTS Sectors" in the previous step (because it had the original cell times, thus the wrong ones for my final video), and the authored IFO = the one produced by IFOEDIT (because it had the correct celltimes).

The final result game me proper chapters jumps, and the subtitles are displayed like a charm even in PowerDVD.

Can you explain me what are you trying to do? I didn't understand so well.
Anyway, to submux the movie, I use "VobEdit" that works perfectly together with "IfoEdit". Take a look, may be it's better.

castellanos,

I'm trying to get fully working subtitles: displayed, and referenced correctly in PowerDVD.
The resulting DVD would be an DVD without menu, automatically playing the default language.

I had the video, audio, and subtitles stream separatelys (after demuxing all of them, and reencoding video), and I tried to mux them an author them with IFOEDIT.

With my additional steps (DVD Shrink involved), I tried to get an IFO fiel that would solve my subtitles problem.

I edited the last STEP using IFOUPDATE, because "Cell only mode" wasn't enough. I needed "Standard mode".

Ok, I tell you what I do.
I ripp the entirely movie onto my HD (It's possible to use Smart Ripper, DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink, also not bad). Then I demux the streams with VobEdit, after that I have the streams separatelly.
I use then IfoEdit (on DVD Author mode) to remux the movie with the new subtitles (already sincronized). As a result, I get already the entirely movie with VOBs, IFOs and BUPs (Created by IfoEdit).
Then I check the subtitle colors and values. I do this last thing manually.
The result should be ok, and in my case it's ok.
I have a question: When you remux the film with IfoEdit, Do you select right the language for every subtitle?

U977

Yes, I select the language for each subtitles stream.

Well, if I take care of what you mentionned above (subtitles colors and ratio value), my IFO files inherited from DVD Shrink and updated liek I described gave me the best results: subtitles can be read both on my comuter and on standalone players (2 of them at home), and PowerDVD displays the language correctly.

Problem solved partly: I can used IFOEDIT to author, but have to use a trick to get subtitles fully working.

Thanks for your help!

My previous solution only worked for oen DVD...

Here is a solution that should work for most (all?) DVDs:
