hi
I was wondering... is that a good way to capture?
whats the diference between a VGA Card digitalization and a "miniDV Camcorder digitalization"?
do the "camera chip" determines something?
thanks in advance!!!
ps.: i got a little JVC GR-DV500

the main advantage in capturing via the mini-dv-camcorder would be probably its robustness to smeared VHS-sync-impulses.
but the main disadvantage is IMO the interlaced YV12-colorspace.
I really dislike interlaced YV12 (YUV4:2:0)
or for NTSC-Users YUV 4:1:1
I only do my captures with YUY2 (YUV4:2:2) but this can only be done with capturecards.
You can see that difference in my capture test DVD:
Capture Test result on downloadable DVD (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71691)But for me there was no other way to capture my old VHS tapes - capture cards could not read the sync and lost too many frames even without audio.

I found the quality of the DAC (maybe codec) in the camera can actually vary (I have a sony and a sharp). If you cap broadcast, you can schedule with a card, not with a cam. Macrovision?
The camcorder would be easier to use than a card.
