I tried searching but I am still a major noob.

I recently purchased "Once upon a time in mexico" and would like to back it up. No matter what I use to rip the movie the results are the same. Once the ripping is complete there is no audio when playing on power dvd. When I try the movie on either of my two stand alone dvd players (RCA and LITE-ON LVD2002) the audio is there but it is just commentary. I have tried every ripper I can get my hands on but all with the same results. My prefered ripper is dvd decrypter which I am most familiar with. I do not understand what the problem is, I have backed up several dvds so far without any problems. Is there some sort of new anti-copy thing on dvds now?

Let's say I rip the vobs and then run dvd2svcd(dvd2dvd actually) as I normally do. Once the process is complete and I go to play the movie on my stand alone dvd player, I only get the commentary for audio as well.

Just sounds like your player is picking up the wrong audio stream. Change it via the remote control.

I wish it were that simple. POWER DVD has no audio whatsoever no matter what I set for audio option. The other computer based player I use is the ATI software for my capture card that will only give me commentary as does my two stand alone dvd players. This is really odd. I have tried changing audio settings for both of my home dvd players but the audio is still the same. The results are always the same if I use the freshly ripped vobs or if I run it through dvd2svcd. Either way I only get commentary. I was hoping that somebody else has run into this problem but it would seem that maybe DVD makers are attempting to make it harder to successfully rip a movie. I would encourage somebody to try the movie I mentioned above if they own it.
