since besweet doesn't support ac3 encodign anymore and softencode crashes everytime i wonder:
what other ac3 encoder softwares are there?

AC3 FAQ #2 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68300#post424067).
Basically, there are two: FFMPEG (former BeSweet encoder) and Dolby. Dolby is used in pretty much every commercial encoder that I know of (surcode, acid, etc.).

i used ffmpegGui http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools.php?tool=434#comments and besweet, and never got a problem
but i rarely encode to ac3

very simple and fast AC3, MPA/MP2 audio encoder tool.
Open WAV, MP3, AVI video, MPG video and convert directly to AC3
or MPA/MP2 audio in one step.
GUI for ffmpeg 0.4.8. Extract all files to a folder and run ffmpeggui.exe.
