I assume this is some sort of dual layer problem, but searching the forum has not given me anything conclusive.

PC: xp2000
768 mb ram
win 2k
sony dvd + and - (1st gen)

After having no trouble in complete playback, I ripped the images of 3 dual layer dvds to the hdd.

when i try to play the ISO images in Cineplayer, they konk out and die about 2/3rds through, or they start playing as though it was the beginning track. (The player still reports being 2/3rds in on the dvd image.)

so, working on the assumption the program can't play it, I used winrar to extract a folder of VOBS from it. I then used DVD to AVI to skim it, but it did the same thing when scrubbing. I even used TMPG and demuxed the sucker around vob5 when the problem arises, and it has some crappy frames at the first 20 seconds then plays back like its VOB1.

This is the same for all 3 of the dvd images i ripped. I have no idea whats wrong or what to try next. Any suggestions or info would be helpful.

Try ripping with DVD Decryptor in File mode and then try playback from HDD again. You don't use FAT32 instead of NTFS on your HDD by any chance? Have you ever ripped a DVD succesfully?

the dvd is not easily available anymore.

I use ntfs

i have ripped and burned using dvd decryptor and veritas, making playable dvds both times out of single layer discs.

As per forum rules, you're not supposed to discuss backup of the DVDs you don't own.

i didn't say i didn't own them. I said they weren't readily available anymore.

does anyone else have a suggestion for me until I get ahold of the discs again? Any help or insight is appreciated.

So all my program made for each image was a single 'huge' ISO file and a small MDS file?

yes. thats correct.

after re-ripping the dvds once they returned to my immediate reach, the symptoms remain.

At the prompting of a friend, I downloaded Daemon tools and mounted the image. It plays perfectly fine through this option.

Now i'm confused what to do next to explore this problem.

Well, try ripping in the File mode now and see what happens. Use PowerDVD or other software player that can play DVD files from HDD.

no change. . .

however this combination at least gets it to frame serve in vfapi, which is all i really need to edit it a little.

Rip ISO using dvd decrypter
mount images using daemon tools
rip is from the fake drive, this time as files and with option "detect mastering errors"

I don't know why this worked. . .but it worked.
