I want to create some of my own (maybe fit 3 movies on one dvd-r in SVCD quality).

I know I can look up my player and see if it does play SVCD, but I was just wondering if all progressive scan players play SVCDs?

This is not an authoring question, so I hope I posted it in the right forum.

A SVCD is basically a DVD at lower quality (lower resolution, max bitrate). Why not just author a DVD and adjust the bitrates accordingly to fit them all? Then SVCD playback is not an issue at all.

But how do you do that? I can't use CCE, because I don't want to by the software and the logo on the sreen makes me mad (on the trial version). But you really didn't answer my question.

He tried, and he's right - you'd be much better off authoring a low-res DVD for compatibility. As a matter of fact I believe 352x480/576 is within DVD spec - that's not much less than SVCD.

It's unlikely that all progressive scan DVD players would play SVCD. I'm not sure what motivates the question. Are you trying to find out if all progressive scan players support SVCD resolution on a DVD? Again, the answer is probably not all, though perhaps many do.

PS. You might want to check out TMPGEnc and DVDAuthor or DVDLab. If I understand correctly, they're well liked by people here who use them, and they're much less expensive than CCE.

You should try TMPGEnc DVD Author (http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html) (free full version trial). Simply use your SVCD MPEG video as a source, and create a simple DVD. Test it on a rewritable DVD, and see whether it works in your standalone player. There is a good chance it's going to work right away. In this case you can author a complete DVD with as many SVCD movies as you can fit on one disc.

By the way, I don't think it matters for this purpose whether your player is progressive or not.

See if your player is listed over on dvdrhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php) ;)
