Studio 9 Mpeg2 encoder

Does anyone know if Studio 9 uses their own encoder or just uses someone elses (mainconcept maybe) and puts their name on it?

I just got my copy of Pnnacle Studio 9, and when I used my first MPEG in a project, the program went to the Web, looking for something called Pixie MPEG. I assume it's a plug-in encoder that comes with PS 9 and has to be activated by the Web.

Having said that, I've brought some MPEG files into PS 9 and they won't even play (even though they're compliant). The same MPEG files brought into Studio 8 work just fine. Methinks Pixie stinks.
