Can you help ? :(
I'm trying to back up a single dual layered dvd to two single layered dvd. That I can play back on a Standalone DVD player/recorder (Toshiba DR1).
I have used DVD Decrypter to get the files onto my hard drive.
Then DVDFAB to split the files into two disks.
The files play fine on my hard drive.
They also play fine on my computers' DVD-ROM & DVD Writer, when burnt to a single layered DVD-R (with no multi-session, i.e. closed on completion).
However, that DVD-R will not play on a standalone DVD player (Toshiba DR1) connected to my TV or at my parents (Panasonic recorder/player).
I read that the standalone player requires the files to be copied as an ISO 9660 image rather than as data. Therefore I created an ISO image of the files using Hot Burn Pro from IOMEGA and tried to write this to a new DVD-R. This failed to write, I tried again using DVD Decryter again this failed saying the format was incorrect.
I must be missing something fundemental. Is it possible to create such back-ups of dual layered DVD's ?
SPECS:
Laptop Toshiba Portege 2010 using XP Pro
Burner IOMEGA Super DVD USB
Reader LG DVD/CD Reader
Player Toshiba DR1 (also tried a Panasonic)
Disks: tried Packard Bell 1x speed and Panasonic 4xspeed
Disk being backed-up: Lord of the rings: Fellowship of the ring, special Edition disk 1.
Any help appreciated
:D

Here are some quick tips:
Did you burn your compilation as DVD VIDEO - that means in UDF/ISO format? (Standalones use UDF format, computers can handle with ISO)
Does your compilation include VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder?
Do you have any "zero bytes" files on your compilation (e.g. VTS_02_0.VOB which has 0 KB)? If so, delete it and get vts sector.
What excatly did your standalones - nothing or did it report some error...?

Coona,
Thanks for the quick reply. I've embedded answers below :-
Did you burn your compilation as DVD VIDEO - that means in UDF/ISO format?
RAMIT->I'm not sure what UDF and DVD Video mean, which software has this capability, I've tried writing the ISO 9660 image via DVD Decrypter & IOMEGA's Hot Burn Pro. Neither mentioned DVD Video or UDF.
Does your compilation include VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder?
RAMIT->Yes
Do you have any "zero bytes" files on your compilation (e.g. VTS_02_0.VOB which has 0 KB)? If so, delete it and get vts sector.
RAMIT->There are none with 0 KB

The Toshiba gave it's standard response the disk may be damaged or need cleaning and the Panasonic didn't do anything.

I´m not sure you burned your compilation in the right way. I suggest you to make an image with CouJo´s ImgTool Classic (you can download it from www.coujo.de) and this image burn with DVD Decrypter. If this doesn´t help then there is no problem in the way it is burned but there is problem in the way it was authored/processed.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.:D

Coona,
I've tried using the ImgTool Classic, unfortunately the same problem happens when DVD Decrypter tries to burn the disk. The error message DVD Decrypter gives is
I/O Error!

Hmm, it is weird. Are you able to burn some other compilation? Can you try another medium? Maybe LIGHTNING UK! (author of DVD Decrypter) can interpret this error.

How would I get in touch with LIGHTNING UK. Do they have a web site /email address ?
wrt to the media I'm trying to find a seller who has a DVD-RW from IOMEGA preferred list. Though no-one seems to has the same product code/Type as they recommend

You can mail or PM LIGHTNING UK! but it is against the rules of this forum - he is a moderator... You can wait until he read your post.
Another choice is to register in DVD Decrypter´s forum (http://forum.dvddecrypter.com/) and try to find some info here.
Anyway - it doesn´t seem to be error of DVD Decrypter but the way it comunicates with your burner. Can you burn some other format (e.g. DVDROM ISO)? Try to burn something on DVD±RW to check your burner´s ability to work properly.

Thanks. I'm intending to get DVD-RW formatted disks, but I am awaiting a reply from IOMEGA as the Type / product codes they recommend don't appear to be available from retailers. e.g.
Brand Name Type Speed
JVC 5VD-RW120XD 2x
Pioneer DVS-RWP47CCM 2x
TDK DVD-RW47G 2x
Verbatim K18456-KT 2x
Can you recommend any software that burns DVDROM ISO ?

You can use e.g. demo version of Ahead´s Nero Burning Rom (http://www.cdr.cz/files/software/Ahead/Nero6303.exe) for this.

There is always some alternative ;). Try this (http://www.ahead.de/en/index.html) link.

I've had a look at the Nero web site and noticed that they don't current support my DVD burner. So I've emailed their support team to see if they have any plans to do so in the future.
