View Full Version : I am trying to use the Big3 to backup a DVD without the extras

I am experimenting with the big 3 and the movie 2 fast 2 furious. I just want the movie and the prelude. There are 8 different VTS's on the DVD. I only wanted to keep two of the 8 vob's. I know that the big 3 isn't meant to do this (at least I don't think it is) but I really didn't want to save the extra stuff because it's really not interesting and another thing is I didn't want to waste bitrate on data I didn't like. Whenever I try to select 2 of the 8 vts's it gives me the rest as dummy files but the file size is really big. But the problem is that even though I unselect the other 6 VTS's, my main movie bitrate is only 1900!! When I use the big3 and select all the VTS's my main movie bitrate is in the 3200 range. Is there anyway to exclude the extra's and increase the bitrate for the main movie without losing the original structure of the movie all while using the big 3 method? thank you for taking time out to read my post

there are many ways to achieve what you want.
try running a forum search on 'strip' + 'extras' and you will find such threads as this

edit:/ and the reason why your bitrate is so low when you deselcted the vtses in DIF4U is that if an entire vts is deselected it will be 'copied' as is to your video_ts folder, which takes up more room than when you re-encode/process a vts, hence lower bit rate for you r main movie.

Dif4u is not created to strip out extras. You need to find some other way.

There is a easy way to do this:
1. Demux DVD with Dif4u an uncheck the unwanted vtses
So dif4u copies these "unwanted" vtses in VIDEO_TS
2. Use the progam "Titlesetblanker" to blank out the vtses you don't
want. Titlesetblanker deletes the originals and create dummies
with 10 kb or so for each "unwanted" vts.
3. Open Reauthorist and you will see a much higher bitrate for your
vtses with "wanted" material, cause the VIDEO_TS in your demux-
folder is much smaller than the one originally created from Dif4u.

Advance of this method is, that the DVD-menu with all buttons keeps its functions. If you push a button which leads to a blanked out vts, you see only black for a moment.

Try it out.

de66ka uses about the same method as I do. You might also want to look into MenuEdit to remove the buttons linked to removed material; that is, if you care about little details like that.
