DVD Compression

Newbie here. Here's my problem, I copied all the files of a DVD onto my hard drive (not the image). Of course, it comes out to be larger than 4.7GB on a blank DVD so how do I compress it so that I can burn the DVD using Pinnacle Instant DVD?
