View Full Version : Are mp2 and m2a equivalent for IFOEdit?

Hi.

I am trying to author a DVD with IFOEdit and it won't remux my ac3 sound file.
Then I converted the ac3 to a wave with BeSweet and then to mp2 with TMPGenc.
IFOEdit requires an m2a or mpa audio file for authoring.

The question is, if I simply rename the mp2 to an m2a, will that be OK?
Logic tells me that mp2 (MPEG layer 2 audio) is equivalent to m2a (MPEG audio elementary stream), but I need a confirmation.

Thank you.

Yes, you can simply rename the file.

don't need to convert to wave.
BeSweet encode ac3 direct to mp2!

sorry...i forgot:

tmpgenc sometimes give sincro error,
better is convert ac3 to mp2 in BeSweet
(only one conversion,no need ac3 to wave step)!

don't need.
--->ifoedit can author mp2 files too!

Thank you for your input.

IfoEdit does not have the mp2 file extension listed for audio streams and that's why I wanted to make sure I use the right format.

As far as the two step approach, again, I used TMPGEnc to ensure I have the right parameters for the mp2 stream, compatible with DVD NTSC. I am not very familiar with BeSweet and didn't want to risk it.

I will give it another try, though.

This is all because IFOEdit won't remux this ac3 file. Otherwise I would have just used it, instead of having to transcode it.

Thanks again.

:p
don't need to "obey".

i'm one of the hundreds members here that love audio.
believe, BeSweet is magnific and in the main page:
http://www.doom9.org
click on "guides" on the left,
click on "audio" and in

AC3/MP2/MP3/WAV -> MP2
- using "BeSweet" - last updated 05/11/02

you will get the best tutorial!

Thank you for the links.

Like I said in one of my other posts, I am amazed how much excellent software was written for audio and video processing. This forum rocks.

Well, I have yet another problem, though.
I did the audio conversion to mp2 from ac3 and IFOEDit gave me the "additional data required" error. According to the FAQ, this happens when you encode with TMPGEnc, which I didn't.
Furthermore, if I remux an mp2 file that I created un two steps (first wav, then mp2) it works, except I have an audio delay.

Here is the solution provided by Derrow:

A: You probably used TmpegEnc to produce the video stream and forgot to set the options on the 'GOP structure'-tab:
- 'Output interval of sequence header'
- 'MAX number of frames in a GOP'

You must set the output interval to '1' instead of '0',
and for the MAX number of frames specify 15 for PAL and 12 for NTSC.

It seems that Derrow intended to have a B: solution as well. Does anybody know if I can fix this in any way?
